Is the logic of the connection to be found in a pun? no in a game of words? no translation into a specific language? no related to the swedish culture? no any particular culture? no - sorry, good thoughts, but all on the wrong track are we supposed to determine a rule that links "pink" with a verb and a person, "rape" with a colour and a person and "Astrid L." with a colour and a verb? no - you're supposed to find something that somehow connects the three things. I can't give away more at the moment, but I'll give a hint when necessary. |

With a class of rape incidents? With consequences for the victims? For the villains? Pink: is it a colour to be found on a flag? A word used in a motto? A. Lindgren: any of her works relevant? Latin? a Biblical name? a name that was made up only for this girl? no, but... so a truly unique name? a name that is more common for boys? no, but... was there a dispute with the registrar whether they would allow this name? no Are the girl's parents famous? famous within the LPTF? no to both, they're friends of mine The relevant thing about the girl's birth: where it will be born? yope (in Germany? this in the US?) the prospective date of her birth? will this be a famous day? no to rest |

Relevant that "Tjorven" could be misunderstood as "Thorben"? Relevant that "Tjorven" could be considered a boy's name? As to the pink gifts, relevant that a girl wants pink things but doesn't get any? Or that a girl doesn't want pink gifts but still gets them? (Story of my life.. *sigh*) Relevant that girls are considered more likely to be raped than boys? Relevant that a rapist fixated on girls might rape a boy with long hair or other "girly" attributes (sorry for that, but I've heard of a case in which that actually happened)? |

Relevant that pink is considered a "girl color"? Relevant that an awful lot of people assume that all girls love pink? Relevant that in stores, lots of things for little girls are available in pink only? |

Clearly a bad thing. So is the connection something like "reasons to not want a girl"? or "downsides to being a girl"? |

Clearly a bad thing. So is the connection something like "reasons to not want a girl"? YES! or "downsides to being a girl"? Okay, this is almost solved. Can you link the three reasons to the three relevant people? |

Are all relevant persons potential parents? Rape: Protective ones? Ones who think that girls are too weak to protect themselves? Ones who think of themselves as weak? Ones who have been victims of rape or sexual harassment themselves? Pink: Ones who dislike the color pink? Ones who, as children, were forced to wear pink or have pink stuff themselves? Ones who don't want to force their children into any gender role? Astrid Lindgren: Ones who would name a girl Tjorven? Ones who would give a child an unusual name in general? |

All the "ones" in Potato's questions were referring to "parents", not to "rape". Hope it's clear now (: |

The relevant issue for the father: - rape? - Astrid Lindgren? - pink? The relevant issue for the mother: - rape? - Astrid Lindgren? - pink? The relevant issue for the third involved person: - rape? - Astrid Lindgren? - pink? As we've found out that the third relevant person is not a relative of the child .. is it then: - a friend of the father/of the mother? - the potential godfather/godmother? - a neighbor? - somebody the parents never have met? - somebody who will be involved in the child's birth? (doctor? midwife?) - some government worker? (registrar? police?) Is the common element the possible reaction on the news that the child will be a girl? like: the police: Another potential rape victim! the mother: All interesting names for girls sound like boys' names! the father: I hate pink! |

The relevant issue for the father: - rape? this - Astrid Lindgren? - pink? The relevant issue for the mother: - rape? - Astrid Lindgren? - pink? this The relevant issue for the third involved person: - rape? - Astrid Lindgren? this - pink? As we've found out that the third relevant person is not a relative of the child .. is it then: - a friend of the father/of the mother? most likely this, e.g. me - the potential godfather/godmother? this too - a neighbor? could also me this - somebody the parents never have met? could be this, provided they have a certain piece of information - somebody who will be involved in the child's birth? (doctor? midwife?) less likely - some government worker? (registrar? could be this too, but less likely police?) Is the common element the possible reaction on the news that the child will be a girl? yesish like: the police: Another potential rape victim! the mother: All interesting names for girls sound like boys' names! the father: I hate pink! yes, but not in that order, see above |

The father: Another potential rape victim! You: All interesting names for girls sound like boys' names! The mother: I hate pink! Or does the common element involve the girl having to learn something? The father: She'll have to learn to defend herself / to be strong! You: She'll always have to explain that she's not a boy / that her name is not a boy's name! The mother: She'll have to deal with the fact that most girl toys are pink / deal with people being sexist / fight against being forced into a gender role! Or is the common element the thought that being a boy would be easier? The father: If she was a boy, she would less likely be in danger / more likely able to defend herself? You: If she was a boy, she wouldn't have to explain her name (because people will think it's a boy's name anyway)? The mother: If she was a boy, the toys that she'd be expected to play with wouldn't be pink / people would less likely act sexist around her / she would be less likely to be forced into a gender role? |

Astrid Lindgren -> Her character Tjorven from Vi på Saltkråkan -> the daughter will be called Tjorven -> I (among other people) think it sounds like a boy's name and people will have to ask about that and about the unusual spelling too rape -> girls are more likely to be raped -> the father fears that she might be raped one day and that he might be overly protectice because of that pink -> little girls often get pink gifts -> the mother doesn't like the colour pink and doesn't want people to give her pink gifts However, we can hardly wait for little Tjorven to be born, and there would be other problems with a boy. So there's no need to make a fuss about things like that (: Thanks for playing! |
