The tortoise an actual testudine? Is the hare an actual leporid? If not, are they humans? Are both male? Relevant? Were they engaged in an actual footrace? Was the race longer than 100m? Longer than 1km? Is this the same race that was set up in Aesop's Fables, or are you using that race as a metaphor for something else? |

Is the tortoise a non-human animal? a reptile? Is the hare a non-human animal? a mammal? Is this a real-world scenario? Or at least a realistic scenario (i.e. not something involving talking rabbits)? Is the foot speed of the tortoise relevant to this situation? Thinking speed? Fighting ability? Shell? Longevity? |

Is the tortoise a non-human animal? Yes a reptile? Yes I think my answer might have been misleading. It should have been "Yes, slight FA Is the hare a non-human animal? No a mammal? No Is this a real-world scenario? Yes, based on real life. Or at least a realistic scenario (i.e. not something involving talking rabbits)? And thus, real. Is the foot speed of the tortoise relevant to this situation? Yes Thinking speed? No Fighting ability? No Shell? No Longevity? No |

they ain't acting like people so why are they racing I didn't so any animal racing(exception when it costs life), hmmmmm They race with their own wish? Does the hare stop by his own wish? Is the hare lazy? Is the hare stopped by something done by tortoise? Are they on foot? Does both of them wishes to win? Path relevant? Some other animal or human relevant? Are they(hare&tortoise) friends? Foe? Was it a normal race? I am a bit confused "Is the hare a non-human animal? No " So the tortoise was a tortoise but hare wasn't a hare. Right? |

Dbw Does the hare represent a group of people? No A group of hares? No A species of animal? No A group of animals? No HINT: The "hare" represents something that shares a characteristic with the hare in the fable. It wasn't completely random, my choosing this framework for the puzzle. Does the tortoise represent anything besides a tortoise? Er...see next Q Such as a group of tortoises? YES! The "tortise" is literally a group of turtles. A species? No Was an election involved? No Evolution? Not except in a highly lateral way. I'd lean towards No Galapagos? No Yatin509 they ain't acting like people so why are they racing I didn't so any animal racing(exception when it costs life), hmmmmm I think you may have missed one of DBW's very first questions: Were they engaged in an actual footrace? No They race with their own wish? No literal race involved. But both parties are doing what they are doing of their own wish. Does the hare stop by his own wish? Yes Is the hare lazy? No Is the hare stopped by something done by tortoise? Yes! Are they on foot? The turtles, yes. The hare - No Does both of them wishes to win? DYOD of "win Path relevant? Yes! Some other animal or human relevant? Some humans, but this could be more misleading than helpful. Are they(hare&tortoise) friends? Foe? Not relevant/FA - Perhaps explore the nature of the "hare". Was it a normal race? No race involved. I am a bit confused "Is the hare a non-human animal? No " So the tortoise was a tortoise but hare wasn't a hare. Right? Correct. The "tortoise" is literally a group of turtles, as determined above. The "hare" is something being used as a metaphor, as it shares a key characteristic with the "hare" from the story. It is not a literal animal or person. |

O.K now I get a Idea but I maybe acting stupid Was the hare stopped because of too many tortoise covering the whole path? So the path's width is not so big? Like in cycle races(marathon types) the hare is trapped between and can't get out faster? It's a marathon? So the faster(whatever it is) can't get in front because of the slower ones in front of him? |

So the path's width is not so big? No Like in cycle races(marathon types) the hare is trapped between and can't get out faster? I don't understand this question. Please clarify. It's a marathon? No. No race is occurring. So the faster(whatever it is) can't get in front because of the slower ones in front of him? At a high level - YES. |

By this "Like in cycle races(marathon types) the hare is trapped between and can't get out faster?" I meant a Cyclothon in which a large number of cyclist take part and they move tyre to tyre so there is no way to get pass through even if the cyclist can cycle fast. Even the fastest man can't get infront when there is no way. Hare is used for a human, right? other animal? Is he in some kind of jungle environment? Is his profession relevant? Wildlife photographer? Explorer? Some Adventurous ? Is some event occurring like some festival? Hare a participant? Is this all taking place below water? On land? Is the hare some sort of fish? Hare on some vehicle? |

Yatin509 Hare is a snake(or something like it)? No. As previously answered, the hare is neither animal nor human. It is coming to eat the newly born turtles but they get away to survive? Thus, no. Turtles are going towards Water i.e what they do after they hatch? No, as answered above. They are moving OUT of the water. Shez is the hare not ON a vehicle but actually a vehicle? Huzzah! Yes!! |

Or was it not able to take off bcoz of the turtles on the runway? Yes! ****** SPOILER ***** Flights were halted at New York’s JFK airport on June 29, 2011 because of a rather unusual problem – over 150 turtles on the runway. The turtles came out of the bay and were crawling across the runway to a sandy beach area to lay their eggs. This problem reoccurs every year and staff at the airport acted quickly to help the turtles across and clear the runway. The puzzle occurred to me because usually there would be no question of who would win an airliner/turtle confrontation. It made me grin to read that staff were diligently moving the little guys before they got stuck in a real life version of “Frogger”. Congrats to Yatin509 for the solve! Silly little puzzle, I know! But we need some levity sometimes. Particularly since my new puzzle is of the classic sort – dead guy and all. |

I'm sure it looked like all it needed was a soundtrack to be a comedy sketch! The article said there were only 15 minutes of delay, so they must have had a small army of "turtle relocators" at work. :D |
