vous = you? H/A/F? eh, don't take the title that literally. It's only important in its source. pardon. nous procedons en anglais? I don't speak French really =D but Googlepedia is, as always, allowed. is someone actually singing? perhaps *grin* is it relevant where this takes place? for svv of 'where'. |

OK - Christmas and July not relevant? in fact they're very relevant...sorry for the misconception, the idea was to lead you to "Christmas in July". I worded that badly. =( bad kaylee kitteh... is it to do with wishing your life away? no has this to do with the opera? the film? another occasion? thisish real life? FYOI? this. FSEI? This is, in the vein of woubit's Christmas puzzles, Kaylee's Christmas-in-July puzzle, hence the title. Now, with that sorted...Allons-y! |

Are there any relevant people? H/A/M?F? I anticipate there shall be both [LTPF list of integers] for how many of them there are, please. we shall see... Any relevant animals? kittehz? yes and very much yes to both And an [LTPF list of everything] please. No, just kidding, but I have no idea where this might be going. As I said, it is in the vein of woubit's Christmas puzzles...one in particular, with which I believe it may share a puzzle statement. It's a lateral adventure of sorts, though not quite my usual. A mini-LatVenture, I suppose =) |

Hmm, so it's some kind of lateral adventure... Am I in a dark room? (I'll treat that as a request to look around =D) You are in what appears to be a cavern, lit by natural light through overhead shafts. If so, is there a door? No Can I see/hear/smell/taste/touch anything? Beside you is a straw basket and a large sack which appears to have been made out of a picnic blanket. It is bulging with gifts. This is a Christmas puzzle after all, July or not. Is there a kitteh? There may be meowing from inside the sack, along with a few other noises. Am I a kitteh? Of course, you iz Doriana kitteh. |

Are there [LTPF list of integers] number of gifts in the bag? Am I allowed to open any (don't do so yet)? Is there any apparent way out of the cavern? If not, can I climb through one of the overhead shafts? Can I get a total inventory of the sack along with a description of each gift or other item? |

Are there [LTPF list of integers] number of gifts in the bag? There are a lot. Am I allowed to open any (don't do so yet)? Most certainly, but not until you figure out which one is yours. Is there any apparent way out of the cavern? Not at the moment. If not, can I climb through one of the overhead shafts? Not yet.Can I get a total inventory of the sack along with a description of each gift or other item? You may not have an inventory of the sack, as that would defeat the purpose of this puzzle. If you would like to take a few gifts out and look at them, you may do so. I suppose we could call your gift a Chanukah-in-July one...or perhaps eight *grins* we'll see... |

Can I see or touch anything in the straw basket? There's nothing in the basket that's particularly important - a bag of trail mix, bag of Clementines, and a small cask of water. You won't starve in here, anyway. Can I walk around? Sure, you can. Is there a gift with my name on it? There's plenty of gifts, but they seem to have lost their name tags. Observant LTPFers may remember (or search for) a similar situation in the past... |

How about "remember searching for"? that'll do it, too... "If anyone calls," right? I do believe so...although the method to my madness may not be exactly the same as woubit's. Pull out and describe one of the gifts. You reach into the sack and pull out a rather lumpy gift, wrapped in a cloth dyed colonial blue with diamonds of a brownish colour on it. The cloth is rather loosely wrapped around it - you can tell it's not a box, but that's about it. Whatever it is, it's soft and squishy. |

I cannot yet open the gift, can I? Not until you determine who it is for =) Would it be useful to pull out a second present? It may well be. If so, I'll do that. You do so. This second present seems to be round-ish and rather heavy. It is wrapped in newspaper, or printed pages at any rate, for upon closer inspection the title seems to be something like (with letters blurred) "Po...ich...anac". And I reach into the sack and try to find anything that might help me get out of the cavern. There may indeed be something useful - once all the gifts are unwrapped. For now, they are simply gifts. |

Are there, maybe, 50 presents? Not necessarily. One for each state? Yope I look at the first present to find any hints about whom it might be for. Same thing with the second. Simply staring at the gifts does you no good. But as you feel the first gift, you get the impression that it is a pillow or beanbag of some kind, made to resemble some living creature. The second one is round with flat ends, and made of some hard substance. Shaking it elicits a splashing noise. It sounds like it is partially filled with liquid, and something else may be floating inside it. Can I find the kitteh inside the sack? You do hear meowing from inside the sack, and when you investigate further, you find three little kittehs in a basket, wearing collars naming them "Tabby Kitteh", "George Washington", and "Maine Coon Kitteh." Apparently the calico got the better end of the naming deal. Or maybe not. Their collars are studded with yellow topaz. |

The surname 'Saunders' stands out here and there, as well as a few references to phases of the moon and other astronomical notations. Nothing seems particularly significant at the moment. Does gift two feel like a snowglobe? As far as determining “who” the gifts are for…Are we trying to do that? Are they for individual people? LTPFers? Historical figures? People currently alive? Are states relevant? Perhaps not the current states, but the original colonies? States that meet some other criteria? Is gift 1 moving? Can we feel a general shape? A head? Legs? |

Does gift two feel like a snowglobe? It does, but only if it's a huge snowglobe. And there may be something alive in there... As far as determining “who” the gifts are for…Are we trying to do that? Yes. Are they for individual people? Yes, though some people may possibly have more than one gift. LTPFers? yes Historical figures? so no People currently alive? I should hope so Are states relevant? they seem to be Perhaps not the current states, but the original colonies? perhaps they are relevant, too States that meet some other criteria? eventually, no doubt Is gift 1 moving? it is not Can we feel a general shape? yes A head? yes, a rather small head Legs? and rather stick-like, though still soft, legs. Could it be for Galfisk? it could be, but it isn't, as it happens Does Gift 1 have a long slender connection between head and body? not long, nor particularly slender. It seems to move smoothly between head and shoulders Perhaps a bird-like shape? yes Any ears on the head? visible? no, but it may have visible earlobes. Or they would be, if they were not wrapped up A snout or beak? it has a beak, albeit a squishy one |

Is Gift 2 about the size of a fishtank You've got almost the right word here... or aquarium? Or smaller? It depends... Like a snowglobe? But bigger than most snowglobes. Pull out another gift and feel it. What does it feel like? You do so. It feels like a round cylinder, hollow in the middle, and with thin ridges all down the sides. It's about the height of a soup can, but not that - it's not solid on the ends. Kaylee Kitteh, do any of the parts of your puzzle make noises or sounds? Does sunlight or indoors lighting affect the situation? Is there something like the large tank of water for swimming creatures that we sometimes see at seafood or sushi restaurants? Is this something that any person might see? Kaylee Kitteh, do any of the parts of your puzzle make noises or sounds? Well, the three kittehs are meowing. I'm sure they would appreciate cheezburgur, if only they could find it. Does sunlight or indoors lighting affect the situation? Not really, other than that if there was no light, you wouldn't be able to see, so assume there's some unimportant light source Is there something like the large tank of water for swimming creatures that we sometimes see at seafood or sushi restaurants? there might be, at that, but if there is, you have not found it yet. The closest thing you've found is what seems to be a fishbowl with an unidentified fish in it. Is this something that any person might see? Well, this is a lateral adventure, so I do not expect anyone to be realistic here, lol. But certain people might be more inclined to recognize the gifts than others. Or does a person have to be in a particular place or in a particular situation in order to observe what you're describing? I'm interested in the various substances that have been mentioned here: straw basket large sack which appears to have been made out of a picnic blanket cloth dyed colonial blue with diamonds of a brownish colour Whatever it is, it's soft and squishy. first gift...you get the impression that it is a pillow or beanbag of some kind, made to resemble some living creature. The second one is round with flat ends, and made of some hard substance. Shaking it elicits a splashing noise. I'm interested in the various substances that have been mentioned here: straw basket indeed...others may have seen it before, though you are less likely to have. you are, of course, free to find where it may have been located. large sack which appears to have been made out of a picnic blanket indeed cloth dyed colonial blue with diamonds of a brownish colour yes =) Whatever it is, it's soft and squishy. it is first gift...you get the impression that it is a pillow or beanbag of some kind, made to resemble some living creature. which has been found to be some sort of bird, I think. if that was not found...well, it is =) The second one is round with flat ends, and made of some hard substance. Shaking it elicits a splashing noise. It sounds like it is partially filled with liquid, and something else may be floating inside it. indeed...something else which is no doubt somewhat distressed at being shaken Can I find the kitteh inside the sack? Wrapped in printed paper reading "Po...ich...anac"...is that a part of a title? yes Of a lateral puzzle? Adventure? As Noel determined, it is "Poor Richard's Almanac" |

Is the straw basket an Easter basket? Does it feel like it might contain eggs? marshmello peeps? candy? Can we see the basket at this point, or is it wrapped in something? If we can see it, what color is it? The bird-shaped one...does it feel like it has a long neck? Or is the head close to the body? Does it feel like it has long legs? On the fish bowl/poor richard's almanac/ben franklin one, you mentioned something about the name "Saunders." Is that name relevant? If so, does it belong to a famous person? To someone at LTPF? I'm feeling horribly stumped on the existing gifts. Would it be too much to ask to pull another one out of the bag and feel it? |

Is the straw basket an Easter basket? no, it's a particular basket you may or may not have seen on here before Does it feel like it might contain eggs? marshmello peeps? candy? it probably contains candy somewhere Can we see the basket at this point, yes or is it wrapped in something? If we can see it, what color is it? ...straw-colored? The bird-shaped one...does it feel like it has a long neck? Or is the head close to the body? this Does it feel like it has long legs? not really long On the fish bowl/poor richard's almanac/ben franklin one, you mentioned something about the name "Saunders." Is that name relevant? yes If so, does it belong to a famous person? Yes, but... To someone at LTPF? No, although two someones at LTPF are related to a few someones named Saunders I'm feeling horribly stumped on the existing gifts. Would it be too much to ask to pull another one out of the bag and feel it? it would not be too much to ask, of course. You pull out another gift. It is wrapped in cotton - what seems to be an old t-shirt - that says "Welcome to Intercourse" in faded letters. There is something soft and squishy inside that seems to be filled with stuffing and 'beans'. It has four legs, a tail and of course, a head attached to a longish body. |

Since I'm a newbie, I'm not real clear about LTPF. I googled it, but don't know enough to ask smart questions. Am I a new LTPFer, or do I need to learn how to become one? (Frex, Shez asked, "is it relevant where this takes place?" and you replied "for svv of 'where'." I don't know what svv stands for.) Were the gifts placed in the gift sack at random? in a precise order? Relevant? To follow up Doriana: so far we have used sight and hearing and touch. Do smell and taste (ewww) give us clues, too? Do we need to investigate other parts of this space? Or do you advise us to focus mostly or only on the gifts? Should I ask about the person(s) who deposited these items here? about the mother cat(s)? What is the best way that we can discover which gift belongs to which person? Is Gift 3 a telescope? a kaleidoscope? something similar? If I decided to take one of the kittehs and announce, "This is now my kitteh," would there be some force or commandment or law that would prevent me, if it is not my gift kitteh? Is each gift a totally different type from the others, excepting a possible animal theme? Are they mass-produced? Home-made? Will someone go batshit insane bcz no batteries included? Relevant? Do the gifts have symbolic meaning? |

Since I'm a newbie, I'm not real clear about LTPF. I googled it, but don't know enough to ask smart questions. Am I a new LTPFer, or do I need to learn how to become one? you are a new LTPFer, and that is all you need to know about that. I'm relatively new, just less new than you are...I've been around since October or so, and lots of people have been around for years and years =) (Frex, Shez asked, "is it relevant where this takes place?" and you replied "for svv of 'where'." I don't know what svv stands for. according to the almighty woubit, founder of woubits inc., pedants to the gentry, "svv" stands for "sufficiently vague values" so I imagine it means something like DOYD "depends on your definition" of where.) Were the gifts placed in the gift sack at random? in a precise order? Relevant? they're in a certain order, somewhat, and it's relevant To follow up Doriana: so far we have used sight and hearing and touch. Do smell and taste (ewww) give us clues, too? they may well do Do we need to investigate other parts of this space? at the moment, it is merely a black cavern with seemingly no way out save for the air shaft miles above you, or the chasm to one side of the cave you are in Or do you advise us to focus mostly or only on the gifts? Focus on the gifts for now, getting out does not matter yet Should I ask about the person(s) who deposited these items here? that would be either me or else the all-knowing deity of the puzzle...which is me again about the mother cat(s)? they don't matter What is the best way that we can discover which gift belongs to which person? unfortunately, none of the important ones is yours, though you will of course receive a present for playing =) But you might seek the aid of more experienced LTPFers than yourself Is Gift 3 a telescope? a kaleidoscope? something similar? it is only similar to a telescope in that it is cylindrical and expands. But it is not solid inside or at the ends, and contains no glass or mirror. It is quite hollow. If I decided to take one of the kittehs and announce, "This is now my kitteh," would there be some force or commandment or law that would prevent me, if it is not my gift kitteh? well, while the kitteh would not be yours, I am sure it would be glad to be your friend =) they all seem to like you very much Is each gift a totally different type from the others, excepting a possible animal theme? there are a few gifts that have things in common with the others, but fairly few would end up being identical inside Are they mass-produced? Home-made? they have been provided for your entertainment by the one and only kaylee kitteh Will someone go batshit insane bcz no batteries included? there are no batteries required Relevant? maybe, fiona kitteh *luffs you* =) Do the gifts have symbolic meaning? Yes =) If I walk around inside this space, will I see something that will give meaning to the gifts? You took the time to identify each breed of cat. Should we investigate further? you should Are the cats gifts at all? yes Are they hints? yes Can they help us identify the presents? and yes |

Thank you K-kitteh! I found it and have learned much. With luck, I might retain in memory what I have read there. With my next questions, I challenge the K-goddess: How many gifts are in the gift sack? Do I need to know how to identify / play with / investigate / manipulate or, in some other way, deal with each one? If I can identify them, am I responsible for finding the recipients for each gift? Do I need to assemble anything? Can I assume that all the great glowing wonderful LTPFers will also come to this place? Do I have any important objects in my pockets which will be relevant? (Well, it did happen to a hobbit, once.) Will I find something in this dark cavern that 1) will help me with identifying the gifts? 2) will help me to find the way out of this dark cavern? 3) Is a cell phone relevant? 4) Are food and water relevant? (for me and the kittens. Always practical, our Fiona) 5) Am I aiming for a larger goal than feeling around in the gift sack? 5a) Do I need to report what happens here to a friend? to my family? to the world? 5b) Will what I do here matter only to me? 5c) and matter to our other friends here? 6) And now I want to feel around in the sack and find another gift! Fiona kitteh luffs Kaylee kitteh too. This is a fascinating puzzle! |

Thank you K-kitteh! I found it and have learned much. With luck, I might retain in memory what I have read there. With my next questions, I challenge the K-goddess: How many gifts are in the gift sack? lotz Do I need to know how to identify / play with / investigate / manipulate or, in some other way, deal with each one? hopefully iz can haz halp from moar experienced kittehz, but you ask questionz, I iz ansur =D If I can identify them, am I responsible for finding the recipients for each gift? only as much as any other kitteh askin questionz Do I need to assemble anything? do not think so Can I assume that all the great glowing wonderful LTPFers will also come to this place? it would be nice if they did, but alas, Kaylee kitteh'z puzzel is sometimes getz ignored bai many kittehz Do I have any important objects in my pockets which will be relevant? (Well, it did happen to a hobbit, once.) ahahahaha...ooh, very good, fiona kitteh liekz hobbitz, too...we are not hobbitz tho, we iz kittehz, no pockets =) Will I find something in this dark cavern that 1) will help me with identifying the gifts? no 2) will help me to find the way out of this dark cavern? you have that, if you can find where the cavern comes from...but then you'd be a lot closer to identifying EVERYTHING (am rather disappointed in balin kitteh myself, thot he would haz it already...were did he goez? 3) Is a cell phone relevant? only if you define relevant as "you do not have one" =) 4) Are food and water relevant? (for me and the kittens. Always practical, our Fiona) there is in fact food and water in the basket...a cask of water and a sack of Clementines, as well as a bag of trailmix, now you think about it. So you won't starve. 5) Am I aiming for a larger goal than feeling around in the gift sack? 1. Find out what the gifts are/who they are for (The person who they are for does not necessarily have to open them. You just need to know who they are for, for the opening to commence.) 2. Find out where you are. This ties in with 1. 3. Find a way to get out and continue your journey, after 1 and 2 have been completed. The answer to that is "How did you get here?" 5a) Do I need to report what happens here to a friend? to my family? to the world? iz reported to ltpf kittehz, that iz enuf 5b) Will what I do here matter only to me? and to the rest of us in puzzel 5c) and matter to our other friends here? yes, here 6) And now I want to feel around in the sack and find another gift! and so you do. This gift is rectangular. It is about 2 1/2 - 3 inches thick, about a foot long, and half as wide across (6 inches.) It is wrapped only in a dark brown leather cover, with a zipper that goes around three sides, and a leather strap on the other, presumably for carrying it. There is a lock on the zipper. Fiona kitteh luffs Kaylee kitteh too. This is a fascinating puzzle! o thanx yuo doriana kitteh! |

Is there any way to tell what the object inside the leather case is made of? Tabby kitteh thinks it is leather and paper. Or what shape it is? Is it a block of something it is a rectangle, more or less, and fits snugly inside the leather case. It is not a block of something, though doubtless a block "of something" DOYD of "something", was used to make it. |

A chicken - a hen, precisely? Is she a layer? (relevant?) Has she laid eggs recently? (relevant?) Should we search for eggs (or other relationships to chickens) in any part of this quest, even if only metaphorically? *Is* it a metaphorical hen? Or a real live chicken? Or made of human-manipulated materials? 1) I want to clarify, please: (a) Do you want us to learn or find *facts* as well as *items* that need to be gathered and understood (maybe by logic, maybe by intuition), and (b) each fact and action and setting, all put together, might, or should, add up to our quest. Yes? or No? 2) We should focus first on the gifts. Identify each for certain people, if poss. 3) After gifts have been distributed, we still need to exit from this dark space. Did I get all of those correctly? Is there a Stage 4, in which we need to use what we've been given, or learn from what we've seen, in order to go to a possible Stage 5? Fiona kitteh is baffled - but only for now, bcz I iz good at mystery-figuring-out and playin with kittehs; and wants to know (our Fiona is always practical) whether the kittens are mewing bcz they (1) are hungry, (2) want attention, (3) have more enigmatic purposes of their own. Kaylee Kitteh, I am so excited by this [[WAIT, WAIT - I wrote all of that half an hour ago - WHAT I WRITE NEXT IS OFF-TOPIC. PLEASE IGNORE, unless you love wildlife and want to laugh at Fiona for getting excited about a small wild animal; - here is simply Fiona chatting about NEIGHBORHOOD WILDLIFE.]]} There's a raccoon in our back yard, feasting on a bowl of abandoned cat food! It's, uh, it's past 2:30 a.m. here in Miami, and it's been raining and storming terribly, but I imagine nothing in the skies or on the ground can scare a raccoon. They are tough mo-fos, and so gorgeous! My delight and amazement come from: a) I'm a city girl. I think *squirrels* are major wildlife. b) I live in South Miami on a major street (it's called Tevis Street, for those of you who are familiar with "The Man Who Fell to Earth"), and c) we are right next to a strip mall, with its big PetCo and restaurants and other franchises, and d) I HATE the cars that speed at 3x the limit down our street (and have killed two of my cats), and ambulance sirens, and the overhead train rumbling along, and youth parties, and... But THIS is the BIG one: the raccoon dared coming here to my yard, despite the traffic and noise, and I am filled with awe and joy. We have a small back yard, see, and it's mostly overgrown with bougainvilleas at the northern end and very lush and leafy palm tree and other shady overgrowth at the southern end. I am used to having a few feral cats come by, with hungry hopes, in the evenings. I feed them, of course. And, every few months, opossums: young ones who are learning how to forage. I always "accidentally" leave out extra catfood for them, bcz they eat cockroaches and other nuisances (which Fiona Kitteh are alarmed by). But a raccoon! This is great! Oh geez, Fiona, stop being rude, Kaylee took the time to make this great puzzle. I was so elated! But you can delete all of that, if you wish. Many kitteh pawz hugz to Kaylee Kitteh! |

"We're just getting started," eh? (1) So you do mean to have us travel after identifying all of the gifts? Or, maybe to use the gifts so that we CAN travel? And, once we have the gifts, (2) other things will become apparent as we travel [in whatever direction KayleeGoddess thinks is right]? and, (3) after travelling, we'll see something that knows we're on the right track? Is Tortie following these riddle-discussions? (Hi, Tortie!) I salaam to KayleeGoddess and I hope that I will solve it later today. Have to go do stuff now. This is a GREAT PUZZLE! |

Oh! Is color-coding important? You know, like, "The Sixth Sense," in which every time you see the color red, something horrifying will happen. And (1) I've been focusing too much on tiny detail and also (2) focusing too much on how we leave this grotto. I will try to find better questions which will work between those two poles. But, back to the detail. You wrote: "findin owt what kind of hen she iz would be good" I was trying to find out what kind of hen she was when I asked whether she lays eggs. But she's a toy hen, right? Do you mean that we should focus on the species of hen, with its various colorations? Or, rather, the meaning of the colonial blue wrapping? Should we focus on the [real-life] chicken's types of behavior? Or is this gift chicken having symbolism which will make sense to only one person - the one who gets the gift? thx thx thx... |

Are any of the following relevant (c'mon Wikipedia, don't fail me now =) ): The Delaware Blue Hen is the state bird of Delaware? It's not a currently recognized breed of chicken? It was popularly used for cockfighting during the Revolutionary War? hmm, there seems to be an American Revolution theme popping up all over this puzzle... All right, that's 3 down, and...however many to go. Thanks for the hen! =) iz welcome! yez, is lotz of presents to give owt...we may be here until we can say woubit christmas puzzel...I hopez nawt =P but then again with such lovely kittehz and friends workin on puzzel, maybe goez fastur nao? =) anywai, it wuz nawt question, but I treatz it as request for recat: You are in what appears to be a cavern, lit by natural light through overhead shafts. Beside you is a straw basket and a large sack which appears to have been made out of a picnic blanket. It is bulging with gifts. Some of these gifts have been discovered/identified already, thus: Three itteh bitteh kittehs to help you find the other gifts. - Calico named George Washington - for Tortiekitten - Tabby kitteh - Maine Coon kitteh 1. a rather lumpy gift, wrapped in a cloth dyed colonial blue with diamonds of a brownish colour on it. (The cloth is Delaware's flag, the gift inside is a stuffed representation of a Delaware blue hen. The flag is La_sparky's gift, and the hen is for Balin. =) ) 2. A fishbowl containing baby freshwater trout of a specific sort, wrapped in pages from Benjamin Franklin's "Poor Richard's Almanac" 3. A cylindrical, flexible object made of plastic, hollow in the middle and ridged all around the outside. 4. 5. A wooden box like a small sea-chest, about the same size as Gift 4, and locked. Something is rattling around inside it. There is a carving of a whale's tail on the chest. 6. wrapped in cotton - what seems to be an old t-shirt - that says "Welcome to Intercourse" in faded letters. There is something soft and squishy inside that seems to be filled with stuffing and 'beans'. It has four legs, a tail and of course, a head attached to a longish body. |

Oh wow...we're going state-by-state with the gifts, aren't we? So the Intercourse shirt leads to Pennsylvania. The leather-wrapped gift...a book? A Bible? (I bet that's it...I used to have a Bible with that sort of wrapper.) |

One more question: Is there only one gift per person? And one more "one more" question: Do the gifts go to the people who found the quarter in whatever state? |

I'm going to try and recap, since my computer's running slow and not letting me use the search board or access the first part of this. -The gifts in the sack are from the Basket o' Holding from your "How do we get out?" adventure. -The gifts go to the person who found them in the first place(?) -The sack is made from a tablecloth, which was one of the items in the BoH in the first bit. -The gifts are mostly in state order. Does that look good? |

The popcorn machine should be in my pile, somewhere around Illinois. The tablecloth was the sack the gifts are wrapped in, and the basket was right next to it. Reassemble, then, and float away...? |
