No ********************** SPOILER ******************** Vebel urgently wants to talk to Belny, but Belny always has his mobile phone set to “quiet”, and prefers to look at it now and then, and call back to any unanswered callers. This could take hours at worst, and Vebel doesn’t have time for that. The one exception to Belny’s “quiet” policy is Gah, Belny’s best friend. Gah’s entry in Belny’s mobile phone list has a “ring” property set, which overrides the “quiet” policy. Gah, however, speaks only French, while Vebel speaks only Norwegian. So Vebel calls Pykc, who speaks both languages, and has him notify Gah, so that Gah can tell Belny (who speaks both languages as well) to call Vebel. The puzzle was inspired by my wife’s habit of always having her phone set to quiet. It does not have a feature to let different “ring” policies be set for different callers, but it does have a feature to let different ring tones be set for different callers. So I recorded a ring “tone” consisting of 10 seconds of silence, and copied it to her phone. Now, the phone rings for all callers, but everyone except I get the silent tone. |
