14-year-old Elinda may seem to have ideal parents. They give her lots of attention and concern whenever she wants it, but they leave it entirely up to her whether to come home for dinner and even whether to stay out all night. She is delighted with this, until she realizes that. . . . |

"Relevant what she does when she's away? yes" Does this activity get her into trouble? Do her parents know about this activity? Is it something that she does or something that she doesn't do that is relevant? Is transportation relevant? Does she become concerned as a teenager? As an adult? (I do not know your age) Upon this realization, is she... upset? afraid? angry? sad? irritated? bored? embarrassed? Same list for her parents, please Is this something she just suddenly thought of? Or did something occur to bring about the realization? Does her realization deal with future... friends? teachers/ professors? bosses? romantic interests? offspring? |

Did you think that they thought that you were doing something else (for example- you were going to parties; they knew you were going to parties; you thought they thought you were going to the library)? I hope that didn't sound too confusing! |

Few 14-year-olds can drive. Did you walk to where you went to do what you did, or take public transportation? both? sometimes one, sometimes the other? or bicycle? ride a horse? (I don't think that likely, but want to cover all bases.) Is the city/town or type of city/town you lived in relevant? Is the season of the year relevant, or did this happen in all seasons? Could you, would you in the rain? Could you, would you, on the plain? Could you, would you, in the snow? Could you, would you, high or low? ---apologies to Dr. Seuss |

So you were out and about having fun in general. Your parents knew what you were doing. You were happy with the arrangement, until you had a realization. This realization was amusing to your family, but embarrassing for you. Did I understand correctly? You were embarrassed/ upset because: -others knew something you didn't? -you looked silly or stupid to others? -your physical appearance changed? -you misunderstood a situation? that misunderstanding led you to do or say something embarrassing? -your parents did or said something that embarrassed you? |
