So you gathered at someone's house for a meal? And everyone was going to help prepare it? Was cooking involved? Did the meal include meat? Vegetables? Fruit? Bread? Cheese? Condiments? Spices? Drinks? Would you say that any of these, if included, were connected with your loss of appetite? |

So, someone brought a dead cat in the house, right? Were they trying to find the owner? prepare it for burial? make some kind of an art piece out of it (taxidermy, or some such)? Had its body been altered in some way (skinned, stuffed, etc.)? well yope, Nothing that hands-on, though Is the location within the house relevant? yes, that's about the only thing left to figure out Please tell me it wasn't actually in the kitchen. well, in this case it was actually the room next to it, but it could easily have been the kitchen Location within the room relevant? yes it is! |

Was it in the dining room? no, and the room search is probably only going to confuse you, you're looking for someplace more specific (and keep in mind the title of the puzzle - it really applies! On a chair? no On (oh, please no...)a place typically reserved for food YES, such as a plate, tray, or serving platter? but nothing like this Altered- by an animal? a person? some kind of equipment? a vehicle? you know what, forget about the "altered" thing, it isn't really a good word - suffice to say, the "alteration" was a result of where I found it... |

Were they going to try to get the cat identified? yes Stuffed? no Keep it in, um, "shape" for burial? YES! For cremation? well, possibly, but I don't believe that was what they had in mind... I think that's enough to call this solved. Good job! *****SPOILER***** Back when I was in high school I was invited to one of my classmates and her flatmate for dinner. The latter had just gotten her driving licence, and had been unfortunate enough to run over a cat, killing it. Thinking the cat's owner would probably like to bury the cat properly, they decided to bring it home and put an ad in the newspaper that if anyone were missing their cat, they could come and collect it for burial. In order to preserve the cat, they thought it a good idea to store it in their freezer (I'm sure this all made perfect sense to them, somehow). Evidently, they had forgotten about this when I came to visit, and while we were preparing the meal, they asked me to go to the freezer to collect something needed for the dinner. Upon opening the freezer, the sight that met me was that of a dead cat's face glaring up at me. Needless to say (I would think), I didn't stay for dinner, and in fact, did not eat anything else that day. Thanks to everyone who stuck with this puzzle! Sorry about the macabre nature of the solution, I can guarantee you it was worse in real life. And hey, we just passed Halloween, didn't we? Oh, and thanks to Doriana, whose cat-in-a-box-puzzle brought this mamory back to me - I guess it had finally been repressed. |
