Because we were Jewish, everyone knew she was a girl. |

Does "we" include you? Is "she" a baby? Was she not circumcised (thus she had to be a girl)? |

Ummm, because she wouldn't sell something? (SORRY - I just heard a good Christian / Moslem /Jew joke recently, and it actually didn't insult any of them. If asked, I'll repeat it here.) "Everyone" - the immediate family? the neighborhood? the local newspaper? Was it wonderful that everyone knew she was a girl? Or, not so wonderful? |

I'm not Jewish but I work at a Jewish Y so I learnt some things. Ex: in Jerusalem where the West wall is, females are fenced off from the men; I assume this is because females can't pray along side men. Are you in Jerusalem? chek |

Does "we" include you? Yes Is "she" a baby? Yes, yope, or no, DOYD of "baby" Was she not circumcised (thus she had to be a girl)? Yope - circumcision is relevant Does "we" include "her"? Yes, but could be yesish if properly phrased Does "we" include [LTPF list of integers] people? Three or four, depending on if "her" is involved. But many more are tangentially included in "we". They are otherwise irrelevant. Is she a baby? assuming you mean "Was she a [x] at the time of the puzzle statement" then this is closest. toddler? child? teenager? adult? Is she Jewish? Yes or yesish, depending on interpretation of the question Ummm, because she wouldn't sell something? huh? (SORRY - I just heard a good Christian / Moslem /Jew joke recently, and it actually didn't insult any of them. If asked, I'll repeat it here.) Ok, go ahead... I may have heard it before though... I've heard several of them that don't insult any, but I suppose some could be considered anti-Semitic if told by a non-Jew. "Everyone" - the immediate family? This the neighborhood? Some of them, explore the local newspaper? Explore Was it wonderful that everyone knew she was a girl? Or, not so wonderful? Well, in Judaism, it's considered bad luck to mention that sort of thing before the baby's born, so I suppose this. Which is why we didn't actually mention it, even though they figured it out anyway... 'm not Jewish but I work at a Jewish Y so I learnt some things. Ex: in Jerusalem where the West wall is, females are fenced off from the men; I assume this is because females can't pray along side men. Are you in Jerusalem? No, good thought though. And that's considered an Orthodox Judaism principle, and I'm Conservative. Conservative and Reform let them pray together. My sister put a bumper sticker on the car we share that says "Ha'kotel l'kulam v'kulan" . "Ha'kotel" refers to the Wall, and "l'kulam v'kulan" means "For everybody [masculine/mixed sex group] and everybody [female]." The point being, let them pray together. That's completely irrelevant though. |

Were your parents asked what gender the child was? Yes Did they tell people who asked? No is it because your parents hadn't arranged/invited people to the bris? No, that wouldn't tip anybody off, as to invite people to a bris before the baby is born would be considered bad luck... |

Was it given away by something her mother said? Her father? You? The family as a whole? Is the actual something that gave it away related to Judaism? Or just to having a girl baby? Is it practical? Or more of a tradition? Could a Gentile wholly unfamiliar with Judaism possibly guess that she was a girl? Were people tipped off in some way that a circumcision would not be occurring? Perhaps because the family was planning to do something else at that time? |

Yes Or just to having a girl baby? Yope Is it practical? Or more of a tradition? Neither if these. "tradition" would be no-ish-ish if that makes any sense. Could a Gentile wholly unfamiliar with Judaism possibly guess that she was a girl? Probably not. Were people tipped off in some way that a circumcision would not be occurring? Yes!!!!! Perhaps because the family was planning to do something else at that time? Yes, but there's more to it than that. |

Ok, nobody seems to care about this anyy more so I'll just ****SPOILER**** My sister Leanne was a scheduled caesarian section eight days before Yom Kippur. When we told people the date of the c-section, they knew she would be a girl. After all, if she were a boy, the bris (circumsision) wouuld be on Yom Kippur. And if we could avoid it, we wouldn't do that. |

Nice puzzle, but I sometimes wish you wouldn't give up that easily and spoil your puzzles so early. I mean, other people's puzzles don't see new questions for weeks, and they just give a hint. No offense though, I just think it'd be more fun if you kept the puzzles running (: |
