Would anyone you know do it as well? Was this a planned thing? Or did a set of circumstances fall into place that left you with no other choice but to do it? Did you gain something by doing it? Lose something by doing it? Did doing it affect anyone else? If so was it: Your family? Your friends? Your neighbors? Your co-workers? Did it involve rule breaking? Did the outcome of what you did produce a good result, an expected result, a bad result? Did you sell or trade something of greater value for something of lesser value? Was your motive for doing it for monetary gain? Did you even have a motive? If so was it for prestige? Notoriety? to secure a different position in your company? Did you give something away? |

Was it some lunacy like going over Niagra falls in a barrel? Anything that dramatic? Did you compete in something? Did you get into something? Get on something? Did you wear something? Did you digest something? Climb on tp of something. Was it a physical action? (and yes, I have found that questons are not so easy to answer when it comes to these puzzles; I empathize with you). |

naturally when you run out of ideas you shoot for the ridiculous. That said, were you reading the Tarot? Sky writing, morse code? Were these words written on a rock, on a wooden chest, carved in the wall, on a coin? Is it more of an inscription or an article type thing? Is written on metal? none of these. In the interests of not dragging it on unnecessarily, the words were on paper, though whether you would call it a page or not could be debated - the yesish to 'on a page?' was to avoid anyone making an FA, not intentionally to cause one : ) |

it was covered in the 'no to all' comment from yesterday RECAP They must have thought I was crazy. They (human adults - both males and females) must have thought I (Andy) was crazy when I did something I wasn't planned on doing. What I did was a result of reading some words on paper, although whether you could call it a page can be debated. They weren't people I knew personally, and it's relevant why and where i was reading the words - established as an indoor place that isn't private. It's also a relevant fact that I'm married. There are other bits and pieces discovered but mostly 'what it's not' and nothing I've deemed significant enough to include in a recap. To complete the first stage of the puzzle, work out what it was I was reading, where I was, and what I did. : ) |

wow, loads of questions. all 'no' unless otherwise specified : ) Did the thing you had done require an item? If yes, was the item in your possession? Someone else's possession? Shop's possession? Was it something people usually use for shopping? Are cell phones relevant? could you have been "reading" the prices, etc, with your smart phone and sending them to your spouse or significant other? did something on the list sound like an instruction? so you did the thing? was your reaction amusement? YES, but more than this, i laughed out loud uncontrollably for a significant length of time. The other shoppers in the immediate vicinity must have thought I was crazy disbelief? a touch of this puzzlement? wonder? is a pun involved? a double meaning? Did you go to the wrong store by mistake? Had you made a mistake or misjudgement of some kind? a very slight misjudgement is relevant Did you pick up anything from the store you were in? Could you have picked up anything that was on the list from the store you were in? yes so there is the puzzle. A man goes into a supermarket, reads a shopping list and bursts out laughing uncontrollably. What happened? |

The shopping list was written by your wife, correct? Was there anything else written on the shopping list (except for the products she wanted you to buy)? Was something drawn on the shopping list? Did she write it in verse? Buy some apples, milk and bread and some shampoo for my head. Please pick up a pound of cherries and a pint of Ben & Jerry's. Don't forget to buy some wine, and a Little Tree, scented "pine". Brace yourself, here comes the rest: Please get me a pregnancy test! |

Was the order of the products on the list somehow funny? no Were quantities of the products funny? no Was there any comment added by your wife? noish Did your wife write the funny thing on purpose? in the spirit of the question, yes, but i strongly suspect there's an FA Did anyone else besides your wife write something on the list? no hint : the FA above is important to resolve as that is what ultimately makes it a lateral thinking puzzle in my honest opinion. otherwise it's just 'my wife once wrote something funny on a shopping list and when i saw it i burst out laughing. guess what it was she wrote.' : ) |

Did your wife also consider this thing funny? yope, it would be useful to clarify what thing you mean, you may have an FA Did she mean it to be funny? yes If you had read the shopping list at home, would you still have burst out laughing? yesish Was it the justaposition of two ore more items which was funny? it would be really useful if you could rephrase this for me. there may be something slightly relevant to the puzzle and OTRT in what you're asking. Was it something which related to another aspect of your life? noish Like she asked you to get ribs and she's home with cracked ribs? nothing like this Was it funny because of your circumstances at the time? only that i was in the supermarket. at least in how i think you meant it, if you knew the full circumstances you'd have the answer to the puzzle. hope that makes some kind of sense. explore like where you were in the store? no Or what you were standing next to? no |

were any of the items things you would not expect to find on a shopping list? YES, great question was it her use of adjectives? yope but irrelevant quantities? no great leap shez - to solve the puzzle, find out a little bit more about what was on the shopping list that you wouldn't normally expect to find on there, and why I found it so funny. There may still be an FA in there to iron out before you get to the answer. |

People? Body parts? Places (example: Buy Scotland, while you're out)? yes, these kinds of things Experiences? no The exact things on the list are unimportant to solving the puzzle. You just need to tell me why I found the nonsensical items so funny. ****RECAP**** I arrived at the supermarket to do the grocery shopping armed with a shopping list written by and given to me by my wife. After a couple of minutes I noticed that the list contained numerous items that I couldn't possibly buy (nonsensical items, some rude -the exact items aren't important to solving the puzzle). I laughed out loud for a significant period of time, which must have made it look like I was a complete nutjob to any other shoppers in the immediate vicinity. What was going on here? What was so funny? |

was the list funny because you'd done the exact same thing to her? YES! many times - here comes the spoiler... **************SPOILER*************** This is a true story from a couple of years ago. Over a period of many months I'd really amused myself by putting on my best Mrs H handwriting and disguising nonsense in the middle of the shopping lists she kept on show on the kitchen side. She thought it was pretty funny the first time, but over time became rather annoyed with me doing it - especially as a couple of times it turned out she'd been with her mum. Consequently she put an end to my fun when she stopped leaving them on show. A few months down the line I was sent on a very rare solo monthly shopping trip, list in hand. I was in the fruit and veg section when I noticed she'd got me back good and proper! Thanks everyone for playing and sticking with it : ) |
