Is the resemblance to facts obviously essential to the film? Is the film of the genre that makes it clear that no resemblance is possible? |

Is the reason why the disclaimer would not be needed because it would be false, ie there was deliberate resemblance to real people or events? Is it a historical film? Or because it is obvious that the film could not refer to real people/events? Is it fantasy? Sci-fi? Is it a film in which a real historical event is given a completely different outcome? |

No Or because it is obvious that the film could not refer to real people/events? Obvious to some but not to others. This is a key point Is it fantasy? Sci-fi? No but the film would have to be of a particular genre Is it a film in which a real historical event is given a completely different outcome? no |

Is religion relevant? If it depicts a bible story it would be pretty controversial to say that it bore no resemblance to actual events? |

Would the film be horror? Drama? Comedy? Action/adventure? Thriller? Does it deal with a subject that some people believe to be true but others don't? Like aliens? The moon landing? Would putting in the standard disclaimer mean that the filmmakers seemed to be making a definite stand on a controversial issue? Is the part of the disclaimer that deals with events relevant? With people? |
