Arnold kept Woody locked up for a week before he (A) fed him (W).
Of course, there was a good reason for this.

I have an absolutely crazy theory so can I ask if the puzzle title refers to a song at all? Hmm - can't think of any at the moment, but I'm not very musical. What is your crazy theory?

Clarification: This type of mammal does hibernate, for differing periods of time, but hibernation is not directly related to the puzzle.

My crazy theory was that the puzzle title refers to Credence Clearewater Revival's song 'Bad Moon Rising' which includes the line 'looks like we're in for nasty weather'.

The song was used in the original American Werewolf in London movie and I had the crazy thought that maybe Woody was a werewolf. Kinda emabarassing but this is the LTPF where almost anything's possible.

Was it illegal for Arnold to keep Woody? Was he advised to not feed Woody for one week? For his own safety? other people's?

The only thing *I* can think of where 'nasty weather' is particularly relevant is the computer game Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time, where 'looks like...nasty weather' is a secret password for the members of a conspiracy going on in Atlantis, to which the proper reply is 'it may even rain'. If any of that's relevant, I'm very confused, lol.

Does Woody live in Arnold's house?IDK; n.r. Is Arnold in any way responsible for Woody? yes Is Woody a wild animal?meaning non-domesticated? yes caught by Arnold? probably not; n.r.
Did Arnold lock up Woody in the house? in a room? in a cage? this in a box? in a dark place?
Are other animals? or people? involved? 1 or 2 other people & 1 or more of the same kind of animal.
Was Woody ill? no
Did Woody eat something relevant before? no, nothing relevant
My crazy theory was that the puzzle title refers to Credence Clearewater Revival's song 'Bad Moon Rising' which includes the line 'looks like we're in for nasty weather'. Nope; not that - no musical reference at all.

The song was used in the original American Werewolf in London movie and I had the crazy thought that maybe Woody was a werewolf. Kinda emabarassing but this is the LTPF where almost anything's possible. True, but Woody is not a werewolf. I'm sitting here giggling at the idea of a were________!

Was it illegal for Arnold to keep Woody? No Was he advised to not feed Woody for one week? DOYD of 'advised' and who was doing the advising. For his own safety? Woody's or Arnolds? other people's? Either way, safety not involved.
did A not feed W for W's own good? W's 'good' n.r;. was Woody ill? had he been overfed? did he need to fast before an operation? No to all of these.

Nothing like this, since I didn't even know about this game. The relevance of the title will be clear when the puzzle is solved.

Was Arnold doing an experiment?yes Simply because he was curious, or other reasons? For a grade, I assume.
Did Arnold need/want to get rid of those bits of wood? n.r.

*************SPOILER************
Arnold was one of a group of Harvard students conducting an experiment to find out how much wood a woodchuck would chuck, if one could chuck wood. They will chuck, or eat, it if they are hungry enough, but it's not their favorite nosh.

Result of the experiment: He'll chuck as much wood as a woodchuck should, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Another name for the woodchuck is groundhog. Is Punxutawney Phil a were-groundhog?!

Maybe I had better explain the title, for the benefit of non-US puzzlers. The groundhog is said to be a weather prophet. If he sees his shadow on Feb. 2, there will be six more weeks of winter.
This only applies in the Northern US, and even there it's track record is only about 50%
