had you heard the tune and it had just got into your head? had you heard some words that reminded you of the lyrics of a Christmas song? have you been working too hard recently? |

is the fact that it was Monday relevant? that it was the 20th? (or maybe the 13th, if you meant the Monday before that) |

Wasn't Monday President's Day? Relevant? Relevant that every letter in my first question was legitimately capitalized? |

Would identifying the particular song help? Or did something remind of Christmas in general and this manifested itself by your singing a Christmas song? Is the fact that this week saw the beginning of Lent relevant? Did someone say that Christmas only seemed like yesterday and here we are in the run up to Easter? Did a post in the LTPF cause this to happen? |

Was the Christmas song a religious one? A secular one? Possible religious songs: -Away in a Manger? Because on Mondays you long to lay down your sweet head? -God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen? Because you wanted to rest? Because you're a merry gentleman? -Hallelujah Chorus? Because you FINALLY got home from work? -Joy to the World? Because you found a cure for the common cold? -Mary, Did You Know? Because you tutor a girl named Mary on Mondays? -The Little Drummer Boy? Because you give music lessons? -O Come All Ye Faithful? Because you carpool for the Monday night prayer meeting? -Do you hear what I hear? Because you're experiencing auditory hallucinations? -Silent Night? Because you stopped experiencing auditory hallucinations? -What Child is This? Because your child (or younger sibling) is doing something embarrassing and you want to pretend you don't know him/her? Secular songs: -Carol of the Bells? Because you felt like a ding dong (slang term for a silly person)? -All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth? Because somebody knocked them out? -Dominick, The Italian Christmas Donkey? Because... uh...never mind. -Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer? Because this is your grandmother's usual Monday routine? -You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch? Because you hate your boss? -I Saw Momma Kissing Santa Claus? Because you hang out with your mother's much older significant other on Mondays? -Jingle Bells? Because you go sledding on Mondays? -Nuttin for Christmas? Because you've been nuttin but bad? -Run Rudolph Run? Because you're training for a marathon? -Winter Wonderland? Because it's snowing where you live? -The Christmas Shoes? Because someone got you some shoes (or house slippers) for Christmas and you like to wear them on Mondays? -Up on the Housetop? Because you're renovating? |

Ciaobella Congratulations on creating a really original and funny LTPF list namely: Christmas songs and why one might sing them when it's not Christmas time. I hate to be the one to tell you this but you are a holder of a very common scrund about the song 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'. As Nimue pointed out in a puzzle some time ago 'God Rest Ye Merry' was an old greeting used many years ago so the gentlemen in the song are just gentlemen and need not be merry at all. The title could read 'God rest ye merry, gentlemen'. Stll top top marks for the list which gave me a nice chuckle. |

Another side note: I just noticed another scrund in the list. The Hallelujah Chorus is technically not a Christmas song, but a song about the ascension of Christ. |

Do you want the circumstances that caused it to happen again? Could they at some point in the future happen on a non-Monday? Do the circumstances occur every Monday? Only some Mondays? One Monday a month? A year? Does it relate to one of your classes? To some holiday? |

Would you happen to permit the [LTPF list of Christmas songs]? If so, [LTPF list of Christmas songs]? If not, was the song religious? Not so much? Common? Not so much? My addition to Ciaobella's list of reasons: Walking in a Winter Wonderland: Because you have a dachshund/dachshunds (As in Walking in a Wiener Wonderland)? It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year? Because you got a break from work/classes? Because you have a dachshund/dachshunds (As in It's the Most Wienerful Time of the Year)? I got the dachshund reasons from some Christmas cards. See, hidden advantage to owning a dachshund: You have a good reason to buy all the adorable wiener dog cards! |

Would you happen to permit the [LTPF list of Christmas songs]? Hmmm...No (sorry). That'd make it a bit too easy. If so, [LTPF list of Christmas songs]? If not, was the song religious? This Not so much? Common? Not so much? I suppose this. It doesn't get much radio airplay and I don't know if I've ever heard it in church. My addition to Ciaobella's list of reasons: No to both, but clever! Walking in a Winter Wonderland: Because you have a dachshund/dachshunds (As in Walking in a Wiener Wonderland)? It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year? Because you got a break from work/classes? Because you have a dachshund/dachshunds (As in It's the Most Wienerful Time of the Year)? I got the dachshund reasons from some Christmas cards. See, hidden advantage to owning a dachshund: You have a good reason to buy all the adorable wiener dog cards! Actually, as stated in one of my early puzzles, I'm afraid of dogs. |

Can't be too many Christmas songs left... Was it first written in English? According to Wikipedia, it was "a translation of a poem...written in Czech, German and Latin." (Googlepedia is, as usual, permitted.) |

*promptly copy-and-pastes that into Google* Good King Wenceslas? Yes Because you gave money to a poor person? Volunteered someplace? Neither, but help has arrived... were you trudging through the snow in someone's footsteps? Yep! I always sing this carol when I do that Cool! **********SPOILER********** This past Sunday, it snowed in North Carolina, but by Monday the weather had warmed up, although there was still snow on the ground. Because the weather was nicer, I wore shorts and flip-flops. When returning from class, I took a shortcut through snow where someone had walked, and sang "Good King Wenceslas" to myself in order to ignore the cold. In his master's steps he trod, where the snow lay dinted; Heat was in the very sod which the saint had printed. Nice solve, Shez and Kyeann. New puzzle...sometime. |
