The TV ad said "Where does Bill Gates go when he needs to borrow $300?
I thought "Why would Bill Gates need to borrow $300?"
Of course, it was somebody else named Bill (or William) Gates. After mentioning some more well-known names (Oprah, Donald Trump) the ad went on to say: "We asked an American President...."
Quite correct!

The person asked was not an American president, but just happened to have the same name?

President=Commander in Chief, as in the head of the American government? That is what 'President' usually means. Might be well to pursue this thought further.
The person asked was not an American president, that is correct but just happened to have the same name? Yope, leaning to no.

Hm, so was this the president of something besides the nation? For instance, I once knew an "American president"- the president of a motorcycle organization.
Does the person referred to have the same name as an American President (as in, the head of the American government)? If so, a President of the last 100 years?

Hm, so was this the president of something besides the nation? Good thinking, but no. For instance, I once knew an "American president"- the president of a motorcycle organization.

Did they ask the president of a company called American? No

My dad was an American President.... Of my synagogue

Was he a former American President? Or someone with the same name as one? Was he Al Gore, who some Democrats still believe was elected president in 2000? Was he Ben Bernanke, President of the (American) Federal Reserve?

Were "Oprah" and "Donald Trump" the famous Oprah Winfrey and the famous Donald Trump? Or some other people with those last names? Was "Oprah"'s last name Winfrey?

My dad was an American President.... Of my synagogue hehheh

Was he a former American President? Or someone with the same name as one? Was he Al Gore, who some Democrats still believe was elected president in 2000? Was he Ben Bernanke, President of the (American) Federal Reserve? No to all.

Were "Oprah" and "Donald Trump" the famous Oprah Winfrey and the famous Donald Trump? No Or some other people with those last names? Was "Oprah"'s last name Winfrey? 'Donald's' last name was Trump; 'Oprah's' last name was not Winfrey. I suppose she (O.W.) is one of those people who need only one name.

Was the person's last name President?

Longshot this but could it be a person living somewhere that's abbreviated by the letter P so they would be a P Resident?

Do we need to find out anything about the company advertising? Sounds like one of those dodgy loan companies that lend small amounts at crippling interest rates. I've seen one commercial where the APR was 4000%.

Ah I didn't think that would be it. I wonder how Bill Gates feels about his name being used like that.

Not much he can do about it. He can't patent the name. With a very common first name, and a not uncommon last name, there must be quite a few Bill Gateses around.
