Title relevant? Drinking? Did the man boast about his ability to do something? his finanacial situation? success with women? some great sporting achievement? I'll stop there in case I create an LTPF list of what men boast about. |

Title relevant? Laterally. You can solve it without the title Drinking? No Did the man boast about his ability to do something? Noish/Yope his finanacial situation? Yope. No to rest success with women? some great sporting achievement? I'll stop there in case I create an LTPF list of what men boast about. I'm a bit surprised that list doesn't already exist. well I think you've missed out an important one did he boast about any physical attribute? No |

Sorry if this is a double post... Did the man actually own the possession? Or was he faking it? Was it electronic? Or no? Physical? Mental? Would it be kept in a: Living room? Dining room? Study? Bathroom? Bedroom? Home theatre? Other? Was the possession smaller than: A kitteh? A breadbox? A backpack? A refrigerator? A small bathroom? A large bathroom? A car? A house? A street? A neighborhood? A city? A state? A country? A continent? The world? The sun? The solar system? The galaxy? The universe? That was fun! |

Drugs relevant? No Did the man actually own the possession? Yes Or was he faking it? Was it electronic? Or no? This Physical? This Mental? Would it be kept in a: Living room? Dining room? Study? Bathroom? Bedroom? Home theatre? Other? The story I got this from doesn't actually say, but given the time period, I'd assume in a study. Was the possession smaller than: A kitteh? A breadbox? A backpack? Between backpack and fridge A refrigerator? A small bathroom? A large bathroom? A car? A house? A street? A neighborhood? A city? A state? A country? A continent? The world? The sun? The solar system? The galaxy? The universe? |

re "Yes Points".. there are already quite a few variants of puzzle types here.. So why not someone host one where the object is to get the most "no" answers (for example)? Although thinking about it, it would always be trivially easy to come up with a question whthin the context of a certain puzzle, that could be always answered no, for example "Space shuttle relevant?" |

Interesting idea... that might make a good experimental type. Care to try it out? Although thinking about it, it would always be trivially easy to come up with a question whthin the context of a certain puzzle, that could be always answered no, for example "Space shuttle relevant?" Point taken. |

Is his boast based on the item's value? it's use? Does he claim to have invented it? Are we talking 20th Century here? If so insert LTPF of decades in the 20th Century. |

Did the boasting save him from making a bad investment? buying something that he didn't need? Incurring a fine or some other penalty? Having to compensate someone? Infringing on copyright or a patent? |

Did his boasting the direct cause of the avoidance of the monetary loss? If so (or even if not), was he bragging about some kind of security system? A large dog, perhaps? |

Hey my 4000th post which has only taken me 5 years Congratulations Peter366! (It is a leap year, after all...) I never thought of that Does he boast about the safe as a decoy and actually keeps his valuables elsewhere? I'm assuming that the avoidance of monetary loss is his not being robbed. Is that right? |

Does he boast about the safe as a decoy and actually keeps his valuables elsewhere? I'm assuming that the avoidance of monetary loss is his not being robbed. Is that right? Yes to all of this, so **********SPOILER********** This is from the Agatha Christie short story "Strange Jest." In the story, Miss Marple talks briefly about her Uncle Henry and mentions how he boasted frequently about a supposedly unbreakable safe he installed. Because of all his talking, burglars broke in one night and broke open the safe...but there was nothing in the safe in the first place; his valuables were hidden behind some books. Nice solve Peter, nice work everyone else, new puzzle below. |
