I have learned that this puzzle not only deals with a scrund but embodies one. So I am going to issue a **** SPOILER *********** The solution to this puzzle was supposed to be as follows. Until a few months ago, I assumed that the expression 'His name is mud" meant that his name had been dirtied and drew only on the dirty aspect of mud. But then I heard that it was a reference to Dr. Mudd, who treated John Wilkes Booth, the alleged(never convicted) assassin of Lincoln. So that was supposed to be the scrund. Unfortunately, according to Wikipedia, I still had a scrund, since the expression antedates Lincoln's death.
