I assume "I" - you (Rbruma), "fined" = monetary penalty, "police" - cops, correct? Now that that's out of the way... Did you break a law? Did the police think you broke a law? Amount of the fine relevant? | ||

For bothering the police in vain? Yes, and we have winner. A short story follows **** SPOILER ***** Last Saturday I was called at work for a project. While working for it, I felt the urge to eat something. While at the location,thinking in my usual habit at the work, I forgot that I left my laptop at the office. After a short conversation with the manager of the place, I called the police. I properly identified myself, I conducted him to my workplace, I identified the laptop as being mine (thus resuming the work) ... and get fined for "unproper use of emergency services". Next time, if I get something like a stroke, I'll stay quiet. Maybe they will fine me for a bad diagnostic! (The whole "adventure" was less than 10 minutes, it was a legitimate concern - albeit wrong - and, while solved, ended the puzzle) | ||

Yes, that was the case. I sometimes take the laptop with me at the restaurant. In that specific occasion, I didn't take it, but somehow I forget that fact (I had an important project due by the end of the day and a stolen laptop would have cost me the project and the job. I panicked) Fearful that I might have taken it and it was stolen, I called the police to solve the facts. I was fined. |
