* * * SPOILER * * * Well done Enjay René-Théophile-Hyacinthe Laennec (1781 – 1826) was a French physician. He sometimes had to put his ear on the chest of a woman to hear her heart and he found this embarrassing - especially if the woman was large! He tried using a roll of paper and found that he could hear the heart much better. He invented the stethoscope in 1816. It significantly improved diagnosis of chest conditions. | ||
