Although most people regard x-ness as a neutral characteristic (neither good not bad), I was flattered when someone asked me whether, as a child, I felt self-conscious about being an x. How come? |

Was the physical condition something of ridicule when you were young by the young? Was it a family characteristic of which you were proud such as I was with my large Holmes nose? |

Is it a single characteristic or a combination such as blonde hair, blue eyes? Is it left-handedness? Were you flattered because the manner and/or situation in which they asked implied they personally believed this characteristic to be desirable? or because it could otherwise be perceived as a compliment? of your intelligence? memory? beauty? maturity? physical talents? Is it relevant whether or not you did actually feel self-conscious about it as a child? |

Were you actually an x when you were a child? Are you still an x? Is a person born an x? Can s/he ever stop being an x? |

Is size relevant? Height? Hair? Eyes? Face? Arms? Legs? Way of walking? Mannerism? Skin colour? Were you flattered that they had noticed you are/were an x? Because you liked being different? |

Talents, maybe? Such as a great memory... good mimicry of voices... special educational skills, such as singing, chemistry, or math? Or... wait... are you an animal whisperer? (Started to write "hog whisperer", but somehow that seemed like a pun in bad taste. Though I love pigs.) |

I liked some other farm animals, though, especially sheep & rabbits. |

Ah wait, shot in the dark: Someone asked you if as a child you felt self-conscious about having red hair, but in fact, you dye your hair red. You felt flattered because the person thought red was your natural hair colour, implying that your hair doesn't look dyed? |
