Some feminists like to say that professions change --for the better, of course -- as more women enter them. Women are supposed to be more humane and less aggressive, although I have never noticed any overall gender differences along these lines. But there's one profession that has incontrovertibly changed as it has gone from being entirely male to largely female. What is it and how come? |

The profession - linked to education? the military? retail? law enforcement? arts? music? animals? healthcare? research? transport? clothing? food? some say that a profession loses status when it becomes increasingly female (as in the case of medicine in the UK) - is that relevant here? the relevant change - to do with working hours? childcare? pay? length of employment? physical equipment needed for the job? related to the smaller mean size of women? related to the smaller mean strength of women? related to clothing? |

Is it being some kind of religious leader? One who sings? Gospel music relevant? Someone who performs to a congregation? Are religions' views on women relevant? Has the relevant religion moved away from preaching the superiority of men because women are now involved in it? |

Cantors used to be all male, but now all branches of Judaism except Orthodox admit women cantors. Since women's voices sound different from men's, this leads to a real change in the profession. Please scroll down for a real change to a harder puzzle -- I hope. |
