If the sodas were all made flat and the man did not know, would everything still happen the same? if they were replaced with coloured, sparkling water but kept in the same packaging? replaced with clear, still water? there's an FA here which makes it difficult to answer the questions - try a different approach in order to clear it up |

Did he die because he needed to drink a soda to live? yes Did he need liquid? Sugar? Was he diabetic? yes ********SPOILER******** The man in the puzzle is diabetic. He feels a hypoglycemic shock coming on, and the next source of sugar is a vending machine that sells sodas. He tries to buy a coke, but instead he receives a bottle with a polar bear toy inside. He collapses right on the spot and then dies. |

Was that a real promotion? Even besides the risk of death, I'd be annoyed if I spent my money on a drink and didn't get one! |

As far as I know, it was real - we didn't have it here in Germany, but I saw it on the internet (and as we all know, the internet tells nothing but the truth...) |

Great puzzle! This could very well have been a real promotional campaign. I did a puzzle once that was based on Coca Cola's "Magic Can" campaign from years ago, during which several cans that seemed to contain Coke actually contained a liquid surrounding a canister, and when a person popped the top on the can, the canister was activated and some spring-like device pushed a rolled up bill of some denomination out of the can. Despite an explanation of how this worked and advising people not to drink the liquid in the magic cans, a few people apparently removed the canister and drank at least some of the liquid (which was put into the cans to give the impression that they only contained the drink). At least one person went to the hospital complaining of feeling sick after drinking some liquid from a magic can. This prompted ad placements in newspapers and TV by Coca Cola urging people who got the Magic Cans not to attempt to drink any of the liquid inside. |
