A woman and her daughter go to Europe for vacation. They check in at the hotel, register, and then go into separate rooms to sleep. The mother sleeps late, and when she wakes she goes to her daughter's room to wake her up. She knocks, and nobody answers. She turns the knob and to her surprise it is unlocked. She goes inside and finds nobody. She notices the room is very clean though. She goes downstairs, glances at the registry, and to her shock her daughter's name is nowhere to be seen! When she asks the clerk about her daughter, the clerk says she (the mother) did not come in with any other person! What happened to her daughter? |

Hi Shawn - welcome to the forum. This sounds intriguing.... Is this a situation that could happen in real life? Did they actually register together? Is the location relevant? Gender relevant? Could this happen to father and son? Mother and son? Father and daughter? Is the time of day relevant? The fact that the mother slept late? |

Could this happen to any two people related or not? Is the daughter alive? Did she sleep in the room? Was her name ever in the register? Did they have to show their passports when they booked in? Did they leave them with reception? Are they still available? Has the reception clerk been deceptive? Is there a conspiracy going on? Is the mother mistaken? |

Location relevant - hmm Is the relevance due to the country? The city or town or village? The terrain of the country? Was it mountainous? Lakeside? City centre? Transylvania? |

Did the hotel hope to cover up the daughter's death? To avoid culpability? Just to be sure - was the daughter alive when the two checked in? Did just one night elapse between the two checking in and the mother waking to find her daughter gone? |

Did the daughter get sick? Sure if yes, I'll have to withdraw, since I think I know this one....I'd have thought it was a classic! Then maybe you should start answering the questions... these questions are rather difficult, as I don't know very much about this. |

***SPOILER*** The daughter got the bubonic plague, died, and when the morning maid came in her room in the morning she noticed that she had died of the bubonic plague. Hotel faculty took her body, and burned it. The maid tidied up her room. The hotel pretended there never had been any daughter because if it was discovered that there was bubonic plague germs in the hotel, they would have to shut down. |
