Is Lennie standing on the ground?
Sitting in a dunk tank?
hanging by a rope?
Lennie is some kind of immenent danger? Was something supposed to happen to Lennie if the egg was broken?
Was Lennie someone who came to see the circus? Member of the circus? one of the vendors?
Lennie have some relevant phobia? |

Someone make a loud noise at the same time the egg cracked? Cannon fired? This a multi-ring circus? Some other act going on at the same time? Coincidence come into play here?
So Lennie volunteered to be part of the act?

Had the clowns thrown and caught that egg or other eggs prior to the moment when this one broke? relevant?
The unrelated event-- was it another circus act? performance? anyone other than the clowns involved? |

RECAP:
Lennie is a spectator at a circus. As part of the circus, George and Howie, two clowns, participate in an egg toss. At some point, George tosses an egg to Howie, and the egg breaks when Howie catches it. There aren't any other acts going on at the time of the egg toss. At some point after Howie catches the egg, Lennie dies of shock/heart attack. It could be said (as in Wildcard's question above) that the clowns were trying to scare him a bit. |

Larger...non-chicken eggs? Ostrich?
Clowns were not juggling....play fighting? Throwing weapons at each other? water balloons? buckets of confetti? Hot dogs? It seems I'm out of touch with the circus these days.... |

buckets of eggs? Yes! At least, Lennie perceived that George was throwing a bucket of eggs at him, but it was much less dangerous than this (or grenades). All that's left now is to discover exactly what the clowns did that scared Lennie
They playing 'catch' with eggs and buckets? No, they weren't intending to play catch with the bucket. It was discovered earlier that they were 'play fighting', so the entire situation is only a short lateral hop away... |

The clowns were having an egg toss as a time-filler at the circus. When they first came out, they showed the audience what appeared to be a large bucket full of eggs. Actually there were only a few eggs in the bucket, it was filled the rest of the way with ping-pong balls. The clowns toss and drop or break all the eggs except one, which they toss for a while, getting the audience excited. When George heaves a long toss, Howie catches the egg, but it breaks upon impact. George is "angry" about this, and charges at Howie with the bucket. He throws the rest of the "eggs" at Howie, who moves out of the way and allows the "eggs" to fly out into the audience. This of course is meant to briefly scare anyone near the target area and then lead to laughter. Sadly though, it was too much for Lennie who died from the shock of dozens of "eggs" hurtling towards him.
