A regular expression is a special kind of search string that lets you look for things like "this followed by either that or any number of those" and such Were you trying to search for a whole word but it searched for part of a word? or vice versa? Did it search the correct document? Were you searching for a word which you had spelled incorrectly, and the spelling checker had already automatically corrected it without you noticing, so that when you searched for the incorrect spelling it was no longer there? |

Okay, let's narrow that down a bit Were you searching for a word? a phrase? something else? did you think the word/etc was in the document when you searched for it? was it? had you put it there? if so, had you spelled it correctly? had it been changed? without your knowledge? by a spelling checker? did you spell it correctly when you searched for it? did you spell it the same way as you had spelled it when you typed it in the document (if you did)? |

I hadn't known how to put an accent in, and for my purposes, it wasn't necessary. But of course Microsoft Word wouldn't mind its own business and changed it without my realising. As a result, all eclairs seemed to have disappeared. |

Me too, Wunderland! MS Word drives me nuts! I reckon I'm a pretty good speller so I never have the Spellcheck activated and as for the grammar, words fail me (no pun intended - but on second thoughts...!) Just don't get me started on tables, bullet points, hanging indents ....! Sorry, Lynne, I was too late to join in the puzzle. It was a good one! |

If you had Chambers dictionary instead of Collins, you would not have been surprised by the disappearance of the eclairs, as the former defines them as "A cake, long in shape but short in duration, with cream filling and icing". |
