Because a friend of mine plays tennis instead of hockey, I saved quite some time today. Why?

Is the fact that he(she?) doesn't play hockey relevant?
Would it have saved you time if:
he played both tennis and hockey?
he played neither sport?
time:
10 minutes or less?
10 minutes to an hour?
1-3 hours?
3-10 hours?
10-24 hours?

Doing work?
Traveling?
Waiting for something/someone?

Did she play tennis today?
Did you see her today?

Were you on the job today?
Were you running errands?
Are there other people relevant?

Would you be at home?
In a building?

Were you in possession of a tennis racket at the point at which time was being saved?
If so, your racket?
Her racket?
Were you waiting for a scheduled event (e.g. a television show to come on, mail delivery)?
Or an unscheduled event (e.g. water boiling, clothes drying)?

Were you helping your friend?
By, e.g., wrapping the handle of her piece of equipment?
Did you save time because the handle of the tennis racket is much shorter than the handle of a hockey stick?

So the time you saved had something to do with the size and shape of the tennis racket?

Was something being done to it? Were you waiting for this process to finish?

Did it need to be carried somewhere? Fit inside a bag? Fit inside a locker? inside something else?

Were you waiting for your friend to do something?
Was your time saved from doing a household chore?

Organizing?
Did your "chore" involve some type of item?
Were you in possession of something that you wouldn't have had if your friend didn't play tennis?

Were you saved from doing this "chore" altogether? Or did it take you less time?

Would you have saved time if your friend played baseball? cricket? lacrosse? golf? table tennis? Would you have spend more time if she played any of these?

I was referring to the racket mentioned here. My bad then. This is about a generic tennis racket, not a specific one.

Were you saved from doing this "chore" altogether? no Or did it take you less time? yes

Would you have saved time if your friend played baseball? yes indeed. I would have saved even more time cricket? yes lacrosse? noish golf? no table tennis? yes Would you have spend more time if she played any of these? probably not

Had she done something at your house previously that resulted in this save of time?
Was there a specific tool/utensil used to complete your task?

"Several of them":
Were they all the same tool?
Were they the size of a toothpick?
smaller?
the size of a fork?
smaller?
the size of a tennis racket?
smaller?
bigger?
Did the shape of a tennis racket merely result in an idea you had that helped you complete your task in less time?
Or is it more tangible than that?
Is it relevant that you might have played tennis with your friend?

The tools/utensils in question are ordinary kitchen tools.

Did the shape of a tennis racket merely result in an idea you had that helped you complete your task in less time? no
Or is it more tangible than that? yes
Is it relevant that you might have played tennis with your friend? no, only that I know she plays tennis.

Does this have to do with the tins you were able to use to achieve the shape? and the subsequent cutting and pasting of cake?

So the relevant part is that the item your friend is using for her sport is round (more or less)? So you can use a standard tin for the cake?

**** SPOILER ****

Because a friend of mine plays tennis instead of hockey, I saved quite some time today. Why?

In lack of a good idea for a birthday present, I made her an tennisracket-shaped cake. I only have a straight and a round backing tin, which suffices for a racket, so I was able to do it in one go. For a shinny, however, it would have taken 3 straight tins, or in my case, 3 times the one I have, thus trippling the baking time.
