People who have read some of your short stories?

People who have read one particular short story?
People who might read your short stories in the future?
Have you interacted with them in any relevant way other than by writing short stories which they have read? have they interacted with you?
Is your excuse for not going related to a short story? if so, one that you have written? are writing? are planning to write?

Recap? Add the following to the puzzle description: A particular short story of mine is relevant to the explanation I would give for turning down the invitation. (N.B., I think Hannah has read the story & maybe Woubit has, too.)

Is this the sort of invitation one generally doesn't turn down? So that this year you have an explanation that would allow you not to hurt the people's feelings? whereas in other years you would have to acknowledge the honour they had done you in issuing the invitation by attending? Even though you knew you wouldn't enjoy it?

If someone invited you this year, would you choose to accept it? Decline it? Decline it and warn the person? Cut the person out of your life forever? KILL THEM?

Something you would say...
Would you mention that you are a short story writer? would they know this already?
Would you mention that you wrote the particular short story in question? would they know this already? would they have read the story?
Would you mention some incident from the story? quote something exactly from the story? if so, would you mention that it was from the story? would they know this already?
Would you mention the people who have read the story?
Does the story involve: religion? Judaism? dinner? invitations? declining invitations?

In the story does someone decline an invitation to dinner? if so, is this the incident you would mention?
Did you write the story this year? if so, is that why this year is relevant?

Would you use the same excuse as the person in the story?
If you accepted the invitation would that detract from the credibility of the story?
Are you in the story yourself?

Is there something special/relevant about the dinner in the story? the person hosting the dinner? the person being invited? the relationship between them? the invitation itself?
Is the story set in this year?
Does something relevant happen to the person in the story as a result of his/her declining the invitation? would you be speculating that the same thing might happen to you? if so, seriously? humourously?
Would you mention the incident in the story as part of your reason for declining the invitation? or would you first decline the invitation with your usual reason, then mention the story as an interesting aside?

Are they friends? lovers? family? enemies? strangers? other? does their relationship change as a result of the invitation? or as a result of the invitation being declined?

Was anyone else invited to the dinner? if so, did they accept the invitation? relevant?
