If I were to repeat to a psyhciatrist, the phrase that she says, and ask him, "Is this something that a person undergoing a psychotic episode would say?", would he say yes? maybe? no? Psychosis, from what I understand, is a symptom and not a disease. For example, it could be drug induced, or a symptom of schizophrenia, or possibly even a symptom of severe manic-depressive disorder. So, is it relevant at all what sort of mental illness that someone saying this might be suffering from? |

Is the name she says, a name of a well know person? Or a generic name like "Mary" or "Jack"? |

The yope: a generic name? Mary? Jack? Is the name a "non-proper" name, or "nickname"? like "Sport", "Champ", "Sweetie", etc.? The name of a specific individual? ...or simply a particular name? Does she carry on a conversation with herself about the other person in such a way that the other person recognizes they are actually being communicated with? |

So it's the name of a specific individual, but not a well known one, correct? Is the specific individual that the name refers to : someone she knows personally? Someone that the person she's talking to knows personally? Relevant? Could someone hearing this name, interpret it as something other than a person's name, in the sense that if someone said "Skip", they might either be (1) addressing someone whose name is Skip, or else (2) asking the person spoken to, to in fact, start skipping instead of walking? |

We've already established that she doesn't talk about herself in the third person, right? If not, relevant? "All work and no play makes Lizette a dull girl..." Does she have a certain way of prounouncing/enunciating her name that is indicative of psychosis? |

Hrm. I think we might be close to needing a refocus. Is it her first name that is the issue? Her last name? Her title (Mrs.? Ms.? Other?)? A combination of the above? Is it related to the way she says it? How she says it? How she introduces herself? |

We know she calls others by her own name and that's the habit that is is considered a psychotic characterstic, right? And she uses it with anyone? In any situation? Are we trying to find out why that's considered such? Does she have a problem remembering names? Is it essentially involuntary on her part? |

Imagine my surprise when I read that this trait is considered characteristic of psychotics! Does this just show how narrow-minded the mental health estasblishment is, or is name-changing really characteristic of people who hallucinate, think they're Napolean, etc.? |

Well it was said by the bard: G stands for Gnu, whose weapons of Defence Are long, sharp, curling Horns, and Common Sense. To these he adds a Name so short and strong That even Hardy Boers pronounce it wrong. How often, on a bright autumnal day, The pious people of Pretoria say "Come, let us hunt the..." Then no more is heard But sounds of Strong Men struggling with a Word. Meanwhile the distant Gnu, with grateful eyes Observes his opportunity, and flies. Moral Child, if you have a rummy kind of name, Remember to be thankful for the same. Hilaire Belloc |
