Haenlomal: Don't ______ that cow." Was the word a verb? yes noun? Pronoun? Let's assume right now that it is a verb. Is the word... abandon? abase? abash? abate? abbreviate? abdicate? abduct? abet? abhor? abide? abjure?..... Did the word start with the letter "A"? "B"? "C"? "D"?..... it started with 'S' How many letters are in the word? 1? 2? 3? 4? yes, four 5? 6? 7? 8? 9? 10? More than ten? What letter does the word end with? "A"? "B"? "C"? "D"? "E"?.... 'L' Is there a prefix? If so, is it "amphi-"? "intro-"? "schm-"? no Is there a suffix? If so, is it "-fold"? "-poo"? no What I meant was: Did she ask them to drink milk from the cow? well, no..not exactly that. But indirectly, you might say that she encouraged them to do so Regarding the 'verb' discussion, I omit replies to them. I have already answered that question above. A1415925: Crazy shots: Don't worship that cow. Don't be that cow. Don't follow that cow. Don't shoot that cow. no hit there Lisa: Yeah... more random shots, I think. Don't have that cow. Don't help that cow. Don't sing That Cow. Don't moon that cow. Don't tease that cow. Don't undress that cow. Don't spoil that cow. Don't ride that cow. Don't play That Cow. Don't drive that cow. Don't ring that cow. Don't smoke that cow. Don't wrinkle that cow. none of these either I get way too bored waiting for answers... Sorry, but I have been away on business trips most of this week. Í always try to follow up as soon as I can Lewis: Don't kill that cow? no A1415925: Does the sentence have anything to do with the practice of another religion? no Barbara: Was it reasonable advice? well.. it wasn´t totally unreasonable, but... Blindingly obvious advice? not really Obscure advice? no Bizarre advice? no, but.. Bad advice? no Stupid advice? not really, but... Dangerous advice? no |

sentimental reasons? monetary reasons? political reasons? capitalism vs. communism relevant? (she didn't believe in/like capitalism, so selling the cow would run counter to her beliefs? ... I know... WAY out there... |

It's a small point, but a Mother Superior would not be lying on any kind of bed in a monastery. Did the cow supply the nunnery with milk? |

Hrm. Did having the cow, providing milk, keep the nuns from getting osteoperosis (disintigration of the bones due to lack of calcium)? Did the mother superior suffer from osteoperosis towards the end of her life and realized she could have prevented it if she drank more milk? |

********** RECAP ********** The wise, old Mother Superior is lying on her deathbed in the monastery. The people around her ask her to give a last, wise advice to them all. In a weak, low voice she utters her last famous words: "Don´t sell that cow!" Now, why did she say that? There seems to be something special about the milk, it's taste, flavour and smell. On the other hand, Grainbeer answered an earlier question: did the milk / cow have special properties ? no, but... So, there is a FA here somewhere. |

and that is pretty much the ***** SPOILER ****** The beloved Mother Superior from Tipperary was dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her comfortable. They gave her warm milk to drink, but she refused it. Then one nun took the glass back to the kitchen. Remembering a bottle of Irish whiskey received as a Christmas gift, she opened it and poured a generous amount into the warm milk. Back at Mother Superior's bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little, then a little more. Before they knew it, she drank the whole glass down to the last drop. "Mother," the nuns asked in earnest, "Please give us some wisdom before you die." Barely audible but with a serene look on her face she said, "Don't sell that cow." Text copied from http://www.larsen-pomada.com/laughter1.html. |
