So she writes 'Waterford on a card and puts it in her coat pocket, for the purposes of reminding herself about something (prompting her to do something??)
And then she gets it out about once an hour and looks at it?
And as far as she is concerned (the first time? One of the times?) she looks at it, the text has changed to HH?
Is she meant to think she wrote HH instead of 'Waterford'?
Are memory-improving techniques involved - keywords? Hooks?
Was she half asleep when she wrote it |

And then she gets it out about once an hour and looks at it? Sometimes more often, sometimes less. It is rather irregular. But it would work with strictly every hour too.

Does she imagine that one of the times she looks at it, she will need to take some action?
Was she expecting the text to change? Is that why she kept checking? If so, is that because someone told her it would? |

2) Did either of the couple have a sensory impairment?
3) Were they going to use a simulator to try out hang gliding?
4) Is charity or fund raising involved?

Had Jim ever seen the card before he found it in her pocket? Did he know why she had it?
Did Rosie look at the card everytime some event occured? Every time she performed some action? On a whim? For some other reason?
Had she put the card in her pocket recently? Within the last day? Month? Year?

Was she checking the card so frequently because she needed to know as soon as possible that it had changed? Would something bad happen if she didn't find out for a while? Or did she think it would?

presumable the changing of the words on the card had some significance for her? did it signify that something in herself had changed? that something in the world about her had changed? that some event had taken place?
is any sort of altered mental state relevant to theis puzzle? hypnosis? sleepwalking? alcohol or drug induced altered mental state?
did she know that she had written waterford on the card? did she think that someone else had?
the something similar that had happened in the past - did it involve writing? a message? writing changing?
when she agreed to go hangliding was it because she would no longer be afraid? because she would still be afraid but would be able to conquer her fear? because she would have decided that it wasn't such a big deal after all? because she actually wanted to do something scary? |

After seeing the word on the card change, if she was not asked for handgliding would she still have voulentered for hand gliding?

was she in an altered mental state when she wrote waterford? when she put the card in the pocket? did she think she was in an altered mental state when she read the card? did she think that she herself had written hercule holmes? or did she think she must be in some kind of altered mental state when she read it? was she?

A few weeks ago, Jim spotted a magazine on Rose's nightstand, open on an article about lucid dreams. It explained that one way of detecting that one is dreaming, is to carry a card with something written on it. Take it up and read it as often as you can. If you do it often enough over a long time, it will become an ingrained habit, which you will also start doing in your dreams. Only, most people can't properly read documents in their dreams; either the document will read something other than it does in real life, or you won't be able to read it at all. When you become aware that you are dreaming, you can take control over the dream and do whatever you like. So by changing the text, Jim made Rose believe that she was dreaming, which convinced her she could go hanggliding without danger.
