His wife is in danger of dying? Becoming sick? Or being hurt? Kidnapped?

Is this grave danger? Or the kind of, "You're in danger of being struck by lightning while you're asleep!" not really dangerous danger?

Is she always in danger? Or only when he's at work? Only when he's at home?

In danger from another person? From he, himself? From her, herself? From something natural?

If he had a different employer, but the same job, would she be safe? If he had different hours, but the same job and employer, would she be safe? If he were payed more or less, would she be safe? If he performed the same job somewhere else, would she be safe?

Is he self employed? Is his job in the service industry? Is it a proffessional job? That requires education? Apprenticeship? Is it a high paying job? Is it a job that most people aspire to having? Does he work in an office? In the same building every day? Week? Month? In a different building every day? Week? Month? Outside?

Does he know that this job is putting his wife in danger? Did he know when he took the job? If he had known, would he still have taken the job?

Does this take place in any particular city/village/town? In North America? South America? Europe? Asia? Africa? Australia? Antarctica?

Is he the only such doctor withing a long distance, and he is incapable of operating on one he loves as much as his wife, so if she fell sick it would be hard to heal her?

Do the couple have any children? Relevant? If they did have children, would the child(ren) be in the same danger as the wife?

Is the man a medical doctor? A dentist? Does he specialize in one part of the body? Located in the legs? Arms? Torso? Head? Neck?

Is it something connected to his diploma? Medical ethics?

If he were a student of psychiatry, in what year of his studies his wife would fall in danger? [List of numbers]

Does he want to endanger his wife? Or he is not happy because of it, but there is no other way? Could he stop it?

Does "endanger" mean "something could happen to her anytime" or "something is happening to her continuously"?

Are the both "ish" from the same reason?

So, she possibly goes to the building (but not for sure), and "that" would eventually yesishly happen to her in the building? Would that happen to her in the building if she never went there -- yes, I know that this sounds stupid :)?

"That" would most probably happen to her in the building, but also could be at an other place, right? If so, would the both occurences be exactly the same with the same effect? Exactly the same with the different effects? Not the same, but with the same effect? Not the same nor with the same effect?

Do those yopes at hears/sees/tastes/touches/breathes mean "could be any of them" or "each will take part"? If one of these two meanings, is it everything we should know about yopes?

Hi, new to this, but I'll try to be careful with the wording...

Is the wife in danger because of something he does directly to her? Is she in danger indirectly because of some treatment to another?
Is the wife in the legal profession?
memory improvement relevant? perception improvement relevant?

Is the something he does which puts the wife in danger, something he would do as part of his normal work to others? Does it put his wife in danger because of her relationship to him, where another having the same action wouldn't be in the same danger?
Is some piece of equipment involved in this? (I can't think of much a psychiatrist uses)
Couch?
Notebook?
Pen?
Tape recorder?
You said earlier that wife's occupation is relevant, correct? Would knowing the wife's occupation reveal the puzzle?
Is the wife a psychiatrist? Other medical profession? Circus performer (always worth asking I think :-) )?
office-based job?

I want to make a picture clearer to myself:

quote:

In the latter case, will it hurt her at all if happens? yes Physically? yesish Mentally? yes

Would a human hurt her physically? If so, who -- herself? Cyril? His colleague? Colleagues? If not, would something fall on her? Or scratch her? Stab her?

quote:

Could the wounds be cured? yes

If she were hurt, would Cyril and his colleagues allow the wounds to be cured?

quote:

Does the danger come from :-
Something he knows because of his job? yes
Something he does because of his job?yesish
Someone he associates with because of his job? yes

Is this all about the colleagues, or there is more in answers to these questions?

Is it possible that he finds out something about her during the course of the story?

quote:

Does the second psychiatrist analyse the wife? yes

Does he (or they?) analyse her as a patient or in the matter of their plans to hurt her? Same for Cyril.

So far, we have established that he works at least three different places: in his office, in his house, and somewhere else, right? Is it exactly three places, or more?

Where is possible for her to be when "that" happens -- at one of his workplaces (which one)? Somewhere else (for example, on the street)?

Something more:

Firstly, what does "noish", "yesish" , "ditto" and other answers mean? (except for no, yes and irrel)
Is the wife crazy? Mutilated? Any disabilities? Does she take drugs? Do the husband and colleagus feed her with drugs of any kind?

Does the story happen nowadays or is it a future scenario? Are any tools involved? (household, medical, industrial, something you can find in your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom etc)

Are Cyrill and his colleagues abusing her sexually? Raping her? Are they using her as a treatment to other patients? The action that they are performing is affecting her mind and body at the same time (as rape does) or they perform a sum of actions on her, some of them affecting her body, some of them affecting her mind?

Why does the husband put his wife in danger? Is the husband crazy? Does he willingly want to hurt her? Revenge? Hate? Any ethnical reasons? Religious? Satanic/cult ritual?

His wife is vital for his job? Could he perform his job without using his wife?

Does the wife realised she is used? does she approve? does she cooperate? does she fight against being used? Do they make her cooperate?

(I just got an idea...it's kind of kinky...but i think i saw something like this in a movie...)Is the wife convicted in a prison or is she in a mental institute and his husband and colleagues are the psychiatrists of the facility and are raping her for their own sick pleasures and because she is crazy and no one would believe her if she ever got out and told anyone?

If not rape, how do they hurt her? Threat, Terorise, Torture (sensorial, physical), cuts, hits, cut her limbs?, blackmail (I admit, i'm getting a bit off line here, but hey, it's a crazy world out there.... :p )

Does the wife's profession have any relevance to the plot? is it a combination of the two jobs that is dangerous? Is she an investigator? policeman, FBI?

Bisedes her, Cyril, and Cyril's colleagues, are any other characters relevant? how many? Is the third place the prison or the mental institute?

I am anxious to see your comments.

Yesish means mostly yes, but not exactly.
Noish means mostly no, but not exactly.
Yope means yes and no.
Ditto usually means, same answer as to the last question.

Thank you, but one of my questions was misunderstood: Any ethnical reasons (depending if the person/s are caucasian, hispanic, black, asian etc)

And now a new set of questions:
You said that the danger is both mental and physical, but you answered "no" to all questions regarding physical damage: cuts, hits, burns, scratches, bacterial or other infections, poisons, torture etc. How come?

You said that her profession is very rellevant to the plot, yet when Bojan Basic listed a lot of jobs, your answers were a bit too evasive. Please clarify.

Does her work affect other people? Does she have influence (such as a teacher, politician, government member etc..). Is she a journalist? Does she host the news?

What is the nature of the danger that Cyril expose his wife to: death? (If so, is it sudden death? or it's a process that will cause the wife's death? Or is it something that might cause her death, if mishandled or something like that?) Is it affecting her health? Social Status? future? past? present? Affecting other people his wife interacts with?

What human rights is the psychiatrist enfringing? Right of own opinion? Life? health? security? freedom?

I'll repeat another user's questions: How are Cyril and his colleagues gaining from hurting his wife: financially, career advancement, scientific? (and now my own): or they hurt her just for personal satisfaction? Or they want to get some information out of her?

You said that it's possible that the pshychiatrist wants to take revenge and that he hates his wife. Is it because something she had done in the past? Did she cheat him with someone? Has she done any kind of harm on him?

Is the wife a prostitute?

You said they are giving her drugs (the prescription kind).
Are these drugs affecting her memory? Health? Are intended to alter her memory but they have a side effect on the body? Does the doctor want to make his wife forget something? someone? to remember something? to forget who she is?

Is another scene that happened in the past relevant to the plot? (like the island thing in the albatross dish puzzle)

Are Cyril's colleagues directly benefitting from
what they do to his wife? or they just help Cyril?

You said that besides, Cyril, wife and colleagues there is another relevant person. Is it family? friends of any of the above? Bosses? Authorities? (police, government etc. ) any other people at the workplaces of the two? Business partner?

You said that the wife is blackmailed somehow. They are threatning her with her own life? her job? something related to her job? social status? any of her material possesions? her health? her physical or mental integrity? Has she something else to lose if she doesn't cooperate? Material? Spiritual? Abstract?
Or they are threating any of the above at a person which the wife cares about (one of her friends, for example). Ok. Enough for now :-)

Do they want to commit her to a psychiatric hospital? YES!!!!

***SPOILER **********
A particularly outrageous aspect of psychiatry in America (& plenty of other countries too, I bet) is that someone can be committed against his will to a mental hospital simply on the say-so of 2 psychiatrists. So all the husband needs is 2 cooperative colleagues, who may either know they have bad nmotives or just be ready to define unconventionality (or whatever) as mental illness/. Since there are virtually no objective criteria of mental illness, this would br hard for her to fight--unless she's a psychiatrist herself, or a lawyer or judge. Thanks for sticking with it, evewryone, & for solving it, Catrien, & please direct those clever lateral minds to my new puzzle at the bottom of the page

In the UK it has to be two doctors and a social worker. One doctor may be (and often is) the patient's own general practitioner and the other must be a psychiatrist.

Following this the patient has the right of appeal and will be heard by a "mental health review tribunal" (an independent body) that tends to lean towards the patient. They will invariably grant discharge unless it can be demonstrated that it is not possible to manage any risk of suicide or danger to others, in the community. This is regardless of whether they are mentally ill or not. In fact compulsory detention can only be achieved in the first place if the 2 doctors and the social worker believe that the risk is too great if the patient is left in the community.

Patients tend to appeal after they have had some treatment and are partially improved. That means that the risk is reduced and discharge is more likely. Unfortunately it is usually these patients that stop their treatment as soon as they are discharged. They subsequently relapse. If this pattern is repeated they often sustain permenant cognitive impairment and become chronically mentally ill.

Having said all of that, any officer of the law has the power to arrest and convey someone to a mental hospital for detention if they believe that the individual is mentally ill and a danger to the public or of self-harm. That detention can last for 72 hours, during which, the two doctors and social worker have to do their stuff if the period of detention is to be extended.

Extended periods of detention are:
28 days for assessment (and treatment)
6 months for treatment
1 year
2 years
indefinite ("at her majesty's pleasure")

I agree with the standard objections to this policy, as follows.
Detaining someone because he's a danger to the public is preventive detention. A free society doesn't normally allow this to be done to the mentally healthy. So why to the mentally ill?
As for self-harm, mountaineers, smokers, & stuntmen are all in danger of self-harm, but we don't intervene in their lives. As puzzle regulars probably know by now, I used to be 2 1/2 times my present (normal) weight. This was probably as risky medically as it would be for a mental patient to go off psychotropic medications, but no one presumed to force me to lose weight. I overate because I loved it, just as I gather mental patients stop taking their meds because they hate the side effects. From what I've read of such side effects, this sounds pretty reasonable to me. The problem is esp. acute in America, where many people classified as mentally ill (I don't know much abt. the UK), know what they're doing & choose to take certain risks. As for suicide, as a future old person, I especially oppose the tendency in America to treat the desire to die as rational in the old & ill (& unproductive & burdensome) but as pathological in the young & healthy. Even if you're more sympathetic to the concept of mental illness than I am,I think it would be hard to deny that it's overused in America.
