There is a prison surrounded by a moat. There is only one bridge to get in and out of the prison. You are trying to escape. If you ran or walked across the bridge it would take 10 minutes. The bridge is 10 metres long (meaning 1 minute per metre, i know very slow). There is a cop in the middle of the bridge and he can see both ways, but only 4 metres away from each side of him. If you were to walk across the bridge without a pass to get in or out then he would tell you to get back. The cop sleeps every 2 minutes and wakes after another 2 minutes he goes back to sleep. He can only see you if he's awake. How do you get across the bridge??? |

So you can walk two meters out onto the bridge without the cop seeing you? Then a futher two during the minutes that he sleeps? Then he wakes and sends you back? Can you bribe him? Can you knock him out? Or is this a you have to get out with only what info you are given in the puzzle? Is there information out of the puzzle statement that we need to discover? Can you swim across? |

Walk three metres across the bridge as described above, then turn back just before the cop wakes up. When he shouts at you, apologize for attempting to enter the prison without a pass. |

But the guard would know you can't go seven meters across the bridge without him seeing you, wouldn't he? |

Yeah, but you can't go seven meters without him seeing you, and the guard would know it. So he would figure that you had turned around. Usually the puzzle works out so you get to the middle before turning around, so he can't tell which side you came from. |
