OK, did Gilbert still have long hair on his head after the visit? Is the hair different in any way afterwards?
Was the other thing that was different about Gilbert a physical aspect such as his complexion or state of health, or psychological eg he felt rested, relaxed, happier?

Had Gilbert previously been to this lake? Had he ever seen it before?
Had Brian ever taken anyone else to this lake?
Did Gilbert know Brian for a while (more than a few days) before going to the lake in this instance? Had they just met?

How did Gilbert feel about going to the lake:
excited? nervous? scared? nervous? sad? afraid? unsure?
How did Brian feel about going to the lake:
happy? sad? indifferent? scared? excited? nervous?
Did Brian perform this act because he felt compelled/he had to do it? Was he doing it out of concern for Gilbert? Out of friendship? As a prank/joke? Was he hoping to benefit Gilbert?

Is the lake's location relevant? Was this a specific lake? Or just a random lake? A lake Brian had visited before? Was there a campground at or near the lake? Any relevant buildings near the lake?

Did Brian and Gilbert walk to the lake? Ride in a vehicle? Travel by air? Other mode? Did Gilbert go willingly? Against his will? Did Brian go willingly?

How long did they stay once they reached the lake:
few seconds?
few minutes?
hours?
days?
weeks?
months?
years?
more?

Gilbert: baby? child? teen? twen? middle-aged? senior citizen?

Brian: baby? child? teen? twen? middle-aged? senior citizen?

Is the length of the hair a sign of a certain age? Something like: "When your hair is so-and-so long you are considered an adult", perhaps?

Time of the setting relevant? Time of day relevant? Season relevant?
Place of the setting relevant (apart from the lake part)?
Is there anything relevant in the lake? near the lake?
Phobiae relevant?

Is this a true story? A story that could have happened in reality? A fictional story? Something unlikely to happen in the real world?

Did what happened to Gilbert happen to other people as well? If yes: Did they all have long hair? Were they all male? adults?

Does the long hair signify anything? Is there anything relevant about Gilbert besides his long hair and his age?

The time: {insert list of centuries}? Do we need to know the century? decade? exact year?

The place: Americas? Europe? Asia? Africa? Australia? specific country relevant? specific region relevant?

The building: made of wood? stone? clay? straw? Is it a boat-house? temple/church/chapel?

When they were at the lake, was the relevant thing they did there: to look at something? listen to something? smell something? eat/drink something? touch something? use an item? wait for something? Did they (or one of them?) enter the building?

Did they both return from the lake?
And since this is a lateral puzzle: Did someone die?

Is either man's job/profession relevant?
Any hobbies or interest of either man?
Music relevant in any way?
When they arrived at the lake, were any other people there? Did others arrive while these two men were at the lake? Did either Gilbert or Brian talk to anyone else while they were at the lake? On the way to the lake? On the way from the lake?

so there is some kind of building near the lake that is relevant? which has some sort of religious significance? is it a shrine? is there a relevant religion her? christianity? Buddism? Islam? the jewish faith?

is the religion of either of the men relevant? of gilbert? of brian? do they have the same religion? relevant?

if gilbert had not had long hair would brian have taken him somewhere else? would they still have had some interaction? is gilbert brian's client? is brian gilbert's client? does any money change hands? is either performing a service for the other?

does brian do what he does to benefit gilbert? to benefit himself? does he have to persuade gilbert? ask him? tell him? threaten him? does gilbert feel coerced in any way?

the thing they went to look at - was it the building? was it something in the building?

does gilbert learn anything from this experience? does brian? is gilbert happier afterwards? less discontent? sadder?

does gilbert want to change his hair at all after this event? does he change his mind about anything?

is it relevant how gilbert wears his hair? relevant whether he ties it back? or plaits it? does it give him the appearance of being in a particular group of people?

just a thought - does he look like a native american (or other indiginous person of the country) and brian is a tourist who wants to take a photo of a 'real' native in the setting of a native shrine/holy place?

does brian in fact take a photo of gilbert?

Is Gilbert's hair cut at some point? touched by someone? touched by something?

Hair colour relevant? Witchcraft relevant?

The yope-ish church-building:

Is this type of building always found near a lake? near water? Is this type of building usually used by people of a certain profession? Is it a church that is used for other purposes, too (or vice versa)?

If they had only this building, but no lake, would they still have gone to the building? If they had only the lake, but not the building, would they still have gone to the lake?

Fishing relevant at all? Boats relevant? Swimming relevant? Fish relevant? Other animals relevant? Plants relevant? Water relevant? Shore relevant? Minerals relevant?

Could this happen today somewhere in the world? Could this have happened in the last few centuries? in the middle ages? in the early days of Christianity?

If a standard citizen from a modern industrialized country was there in the building with them, would s/he understand what they are doing?

Hello again.

Does Brian want to christinate (i'm not sure how it is called in English, the action by which the priest washes a person with holy water and gives him/her a Christian name)

Is the building a grave? a crypt or something like this?
DO the long hair of Gilbert and his resemblance to Jesus have any connection? Was Gilbert taken as Jesus? Is he really Jesus? or Brian thinks he is?
By reffering to Gilbert's occupation you mean his job? or hobbies?
Is he a doctor? lawyer? businessman? priest (of any religion)? Someone who works for the state? or for the private sector? or for himself? Computer science? Scientist? Biology? Engineer? Teacher? government? Judge? unqualified worker? any other hint on his occupation?

Does Gilbert believe in something (does he have a religion? or he does not believe any God exists?)

Gilbert and Brian know each other for some time? or they could as easyly meet on the street?

Why does Gilbert follow Brian if he is slightly afraid of going to the lake? How does Brian convince G. to follow him? He forces him physically, he curses him,he threats him? or he convices him nicely? Does he promise anything to Gilbert? Does Gilbert give money toBrian or viceversa?
in which way does Gilbert's long hair play a role in this story: in connection to Brian? any mechanical role? psychical? Does he feel uneasy near Brian due to his long hair?

Was the building an empty room? are objects inside it? are they rellevant?
Any other persons relevant to this story?
any other previous places and/or actions of any of the two men relevant?

is cutting gilbert's hair important?
Any other connection between water and christianity than the one I reffered to previously? Is holy water involved?

Gilbert & Brian have a pre-existing relationship. (HINT: Find out precisely what it is.)Gilbert's occupation is relevant but it is not precisely a "job." (HINT: FIND OUT WHAT GILBERT'S OCCUPATION IS.)

Is Brian a priest? Is he Gilbert's teacher? His mentor?

Are other trainee priests present at the lake? Is Brian conducting some sort of demonstration?

The money that changes hands: is this some sort of tuition fee?

Daft question but I can't resist: does Brian fancy Gilbert at all?

Does Gilbert actually attempt to walk on the lake?

Is the lake frozen?

Does Brian say to Gilbert that the only priests allowed to have long hair are those that can walk on water? and that if he wants to keep his long hair he will have to walk on water? does Brian say, in effect, when you can walk on water like Jesus did you can have long hair like him?

************ SPOILER ***********

When Brian, a priest at a Catholic seminary, criticized seminarian Gilbery for having long hair, Gilbert replied that Jesus had long hair. So Brian took Gilbert to a lake and said, "Walk on that." This is supposedly a true story. Thanks for sticking with it, everyone & for solving it, Hannah, & please check out my new puzzle at the bottom of the page.
