It's a common enough warning, but in this case could lead to the loss of a lot of money. |

Hi Katy. Common written warning? Legal disclaimer? Traffic sign? Verbal warning? Product usage warning? Is the person (or entity) doing (or not doing) the warning the potential loser of money? Would the loss of money be due to the warning having been given? Having not been given? |

Hi! Common written warning? Yes Legal disclaimer? Traffic sign? Verbal warning? No to all Product usage warning? Noish, but OTRT Is the person (or entity) doing (or not doing) the warning the potential loser of money? No Would the loss of money be due to the warning having been given? Good question. If the warning is literally true then the loss of money may happen anyway, despite the warning. However, being aware of the warning would make it less likely Having not been given? |

Is it a warning written on a sign? Does the warning say something about an area? If so, is it part of a work place? A bank? A toilet? Does it have to do with hygiene? with personal physical safety? or with some other kind of risk? Does it have to do with a risk of some object getting damaged? (which would mean a loss of money) So there is one meaning of the warning which is literal, and one which is not and which happens to be true in this case? Or is it just that normally the risk of the thing that is warned about becoming true is quite small, but this time the risk happens to be very large, and for some other reason than normally expected. (but that the meaning of the warning itself is the same one)? I.e. For example: "Warning: keep your luggage in view." But this time the particular luggage happens to be a very rare and precious unfettered albino elephant, which might run away if unwatched (without anyone stealing it). Does the warning in itself mention something more or less directly related to money? |

No to all Does it have to do with hygiene? with personal physical safety? or with some other kind of risk? No to all Does it have to do with a risk of some object getting damaged? (which would mean a loss of money) No, but almost OTRT So there is one meaning of the warning which is literal, and one which is not and which happens to be true in this case? I've got myself in a bit of a pickle! This is a warning /notification that is very common in certain situations, and in those situations, the fact that it is true doesn't really matter. In this specific situation, the thought that it might be true in the same way is ridiculous - if it were it could potentially lead to a loss of money. Reading between the lines, this warning/notification must mean something slightly different in this situation. Hope this helps Or is it just that normally the risk of the thing that is warned about becoming true is quite small No, it's usually the case I would think, but this time the risk happens to be very large, and for some other reason than normally expected. (but that the meaning of the warning itself is the same one)? The exact wording of the warning is the same. I assume its meaning is slightly different - if not, it's ridiculous! I.e. For example: "Warning: keep your luggage in view." But this time the particular luggage happens to be a very rare and precious unfettered albino elephant, which might run away if unwatched (without anyone stealing it). I see what you mean, but no. The white elephant is a red herring Does the warning in itself mention something more or less directly related to money? No |

Does the loss of money result from fewer of the products being sold? Is the warning something like "Do not purchase if package is torn/opened"? "Do not use after date printed above"? |

Is the warning printed on something? Does it refer to the use of something (ex: do not use this hair dryer while taking a bath)? Does it refer to the contents of something (ex: this peanut butter may contain peanuts)? Does it refer to a possible consequence of the use or misuse of a product (ex: do not try to use this inflatable Mickey Mouse doll as a life preserver)? Would the potential loss of money come from: a lawsuit? payout for covering medical expenses? payout for repairs to something? payout for environmental cleanup? compensation for loss of work/employment? coverage for loss of life? simply a case of "hey, I paid for this thing that I really don't want, but now I'm stuck with it"? |

Is it more in the nature of "use of this product in a way inconsistent with its intended purpose may result in injury, death, mayhem, the release of toxic fumes, the maiming of small, fluffy animals or property damage?" Or "Wear protective goggles when using this machine?" Is the thingie typically used in a way which is other than that for which it is intended/marketed? |

Can one see the faces of the cards through their backs? At all times? When there is a bright light behind them? If the get a little wet? Are the faces printed on both sides? Is the number of each card off from a regular 52-card deck (for example, they might accidentally put in three Jacks of Hearts and leave out the Four and Ace of Diamonds)? Are the faces irregular (so that one corner might read Ten of Clubs, but the rest of the card is the Five of Clubs)? |

Or...how about age relevance? Some foods/products come with warnings about appropriate ages (for ages 3 and up, for example), and the cards may come with a similar note which wouldn't apply to people who are too young to legally gamble...this is a stretch, but had to ask. |

No to these, sorry Martinfg (Martinfg) Posted on Monday, November 13, 2006 - 5:10 pm: How about something along the lines of "Actual contents may vary"? Exactly that! ********** SPOILER ************* Recently, while playing poker, I noticed the box from the deck we were playing in said "exact contents may vary"! I assume it meant the pictures on the backs of the cards, although to me it sounds as though there may be 2 Jack of hearts and only one ace of spades! Thanks for playing everyone, and well done to Martinfg |
