I'll put Wunderland in this one in honor of him solving my very first puzzle "Moonlighing Madness"......

YANKEE DOODLE DANDEE

Every time Wunderland got curious he would play Yankee Doodle and then interrupt himself. He did this at least once a day for years, but sometimes more than a dozen times a day. Why, my lateral-thinking-genius-friends? Why????

Playing Yankee Doodle? Is he playing it on a musical instrument? Piano? Guitar? Violin? Flute? some wind instrument? brass? percussion?
Or is "playing Yankee Doodle" some kind of game where he pretends to ride around on a pony?

Was he playing it using something we wouldn't usually call a musical instrument? Was he using the computer? wine glasses? spoons? knives?

Yankee Doodle the song, correct? correct

Was he playing it using something we wouldn't usually call a musical instrument? yes

Was he using the computer? no
wine glasses?no
spoons? no
knives?no

Wunderland is human? yes, he is a poster on this forum -- I'm using his username in honor of him answering my first puzzle posted here: "Moonlighting Madness."

got curious, he change mentaly? not sure what you mean by this. He mentally got curious, yes, in the normal sense of curious.

or physicly I think I see what you mean; no not physically "curious" as another word for "strange" but rather curious as in his thoughts

he do that when he become curius (random moment)yes, random

or with methode (exemple: every hour) no, no pattern, just when he got curious

Good questions; keep 'em coming!

He was curious because he wanted to find out something? And playing Yankee Doodle would help him find out that something?
Would he be able to satisfy his curiosity by playing any other song?
Does he create the tune by hitting something? rubbing something? strumming something? plucking? blowing?
Is he performing the song for someone? or just for himself? Is there something interesting about the song that he likes to mull over?
Interrupt himself = he would just stop playing? Does he actually do something to stop the music? Does he do something after he has stopped playing? Relevant what he does?

Which Yankee Doodle does he sing, this one:
Yankee Doodle went to town
Riding on a pony
He stuck a feather in his hat
And called it macaroni

Or this one:
Father and I went down to camp,
Along with Captain Gooding,
And there we saw the men and boys
As thick as hasty pudding.
Yankee Doodle keep it up,
Yankee Doodle dandy,
Mind the music and the step,
And with the girls be handy.
etc
etc

He was curious because he wanted to find out something? yes
And playing Yankee Doodle would help him find out that something? yes
Would he be able to satisfy his curiosity by playing any other song? he could satisfy other curiosities by playing other songs, but with this one curiosity he would have to play Yankee Doodle
Does he create the tune by hitting something?yope rubbing something? no strumming something? no plucking?no blowing?no

Is he performing the song for someone? no or just for himself? yes
Is there something interesting about the song that he likes to mull over? no

Interrupt himself = he would just stop playing? FA on WHAT is being interrupted
Does he actually do something to stop the music? no, just stops playing
Does he do something after he has stopped playing? yes
Relevant what he does?yes

Which Yankee Doodle does he sing, this one: see below...
Yankee Doodle went to town
Riding on a pony
He stuck a feather in his hat
And called it macaroni

Or this one:

Along with Captain Gooding,
And there we saw the men and boys
As thick as hasty pudding.

Yankee Doodle dandy,
Mind the music and the step,
And with the girls be handy.

It's the TUNE he is playing (as opposed to singing) and I believe these two versions have the same tune, don't they? If not, then it would be the first one. Good questions.

Does he play the verse a few times before he stops? Just once? Does he not even complete one verse?
Which part does he stop:
Yankee Doodle went to town
Riding on a pony
He stuck a feather in his hat
And called it macaroni
(with question marks after each word)

Is the rhythm of the song important? Or just the tune?

He did this at least once a day...because there was something new that he wanted to find out each day? Or does he forget what he had already found out the previous day?
And on the days when he plays it more than a dozen times, is he responding to external stimuli or just an unpredictable state of mind?

Is he using the tune to help him remember a mathematical or chemical formula? Something along those lines?

Could a regular person play the verse to find out information (or is this something only Wunderland can do)?
Could he find this out playing a different "instrument"?
Does he require another person to satisfy this curiosity after playing the verse?

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Yes, yes "you" in this puzzle are dialing a number on your touch tone phone!!! Good one! Now just tell me how you "interrupt yourself" after that and you've REALLY got it. MAN! Good one!

CLARIFICATION

Could a regular person play the verse to find out information (or is this something only Wunderland can do)? I said: "Anyone can do it" and it's true that anyone can play the tune, but not everyone can get the information that Wunderland can......

Is he calling a particular person? To ask him/her something? Maybe he's doing research on something and the person who can be reached by the Yankee Doodle number is an expert in that field?

***********SPOILER -- SOLUTION***********

Is he checking his voicemail?

VERY GOOD, PUZZLICIOUS! Yes, he is checking his voice mail. His number happens to sound out the first 7 notes of Yankee Doodle (I thought of this because my father's phone number sounds very much like this tune). When he is curious about who has called he "plays" Yankee Doodle (his own number) to get to his voice mail (or machine) and then "interrupts himself" by punching another key when his greeting starts -- a key that stops the greeting and gets right to checking messages. GOOD JOB! (maybe I'll have to do another one with "Puzzlicious" as the main character........)
