Several years ago, I read a non-fiction book about an American boarding school that had a policy I found so astonishing I could hardly believe anyone would be willing, let alone eager, to teach there. But many people are. What's the policy?? |

Does the policy govern the relationship betwen the teachers and the students? Or does it affect just the teachers? Does it include any limitations for the teachers (such as not being allowed to leave the premises of the school)? Any obligations of the teachers which are limiting/dangerous/nonsensical? |

The limiting conditions: are they limiting just for the teachers, or for the students as well? Is the fact that it is a boarding school relevant? Or would it work the same for any common school? Age of students relevant? Gender of teachers/students relevant? Does the limitation concern verbal/physical/any other interaction between the teachers and the students? |

Are teachers forbidden to do something in relation to the students? The reason why you think most people wouldn't want to teach there - is it the fact that they should do something which is unusual/shouldn't do something which is perfectly normal and usual? Is it an unusual punishment for doing something quite common? |

Is the boarding school for dedicated for a community in particular? I mean serving students of a particular race, colour, tribe etc. Will this policy be considered strange outside USA as well? Does this policy makes students more willing to join it? |

So the policy says teachers shouldn't say/do something to the students, correct? Is this undesired activity restricted to the time after the lessons? Limited to any time of the day? If so, is it daytime/nighttime? Do the teachers stay with the students overnight? Relevant? Would the restriction concern ANY teacher towards ANY student? Or just male teachers/female students? Female teachers/male students? Is the activity very common? If you saw someone doing it in public, would it embarass you? Would it be common/possible in other schools? |

Does the limitation include something that is highly unlikely that any sane person would ever consider? Such as, you are not allowed to correct or punish students using a handgun, a large axe and/or a stick longer than 8 feet? Or, teachers are not allowed to punish students that are bigger than themselves, due to insurance constraints? Or, the school does not financially compensate teachers for dry cleaning blood off their working clothes? Eh... I got a bit carried away... |

is this rule for the protection of the students? the teachers? does it require the teachers to act differently to the students in the 'after lessons' periods than during lessons? does it require teachers to be more involved with the children that you might like? or less involved? does it relate to how the teachers must address the students? does it relate to discipline of the students at all? to punishment? does it mean that the teachers must become involved in the domestic lives of the students? act in some way like parents? or are they told they must not act in some way that would be natural for parents? does it relate to the leisure activities of the students? of the teachers? are the teachers subject to the same restrictions as the students in some way? eg the same 'lights out' time? do the teachers live in the school? relevant? |

Oh you haven't heard anything yet. My University switched to a "residential college" where the teachers live and eat dinner in the Dorms with the students. It's bizzare and I graduated before it occurred, but for whatever reason the school thought it would attract more students... or richer parents. |
