So he bought a flight ticket written out on his name? Did anyone else use it? It was a ticket from A to B and back to A? He flew neither from A to B nor from B to A? Did he buy it in A? in B? Were the flight details like airline and dates specified on the ticket? Did he do anything else with the ticket? Did he keep it to the moment when the flight took place? Are there more people involved? Did anyone want him to buy a ticket? or expect him? or did he want anyone to think that he would take the plane? Is there some criminal background? Would the puzzle work with a train ticket? |

Did the seat reserved on his name stay empty? Did he use the ticket to transport some object or animal? Was the ticket as such important to him? because of its shape? size? colour? material? smell? Was any information written on the ticket important to him: his name? the names of the place of departure and destination? Did he carefully choose: the departure and destination? the dates? the airline? first class, business or economy class? the place of the seat (window or aisle, front or back of the plane)? Are type or size of the plane relevant? Was it a direct flight? Did the flight actually take place? Did he go to the airport? Is it relevant where he bought the ticket? Was it him who payed for it? Was the price of the ticket recompensed by: some personal satisfaction? some financial gain? was he refunded? |

Was he planning to stay? Was he planning to go somewhere else? Was it his own idea to buy the ticket? Did he tell someone else that he bought the ticket? Relevant who? Does he suspect that someone knows what tickets he buys? Is he interested in what other people would be on this trip? Does the ticket give him access to a place he would not be able to access otherwise? Does he use that opportunity? Was the ticket for himself? Is it the last available ticket to that place? Does buying the ticket prevent someone else to go there? Did he need the frequent flyer miles? Any other bonus connected to buying the ticket? |

So did he leave the airport through the area usually meant for departures? or the normal arrivals area? Did he leave and re-enter the airport at any point? i.e. Did he stay in the building to get from departures to arrivals? (just to clarify what I am trying to ask: When you go through security into the departure lounge this is usually seperate from the arrivals area that you go when you land to reclaim your cases etc. and I would not have thought it that easy to get from one to the other and trying to get back out of departures may have caused him a few problems) How long was he in the airport: Less than 10 minutes? less than an hour? less than 6 hours? Less than 12 hours? |

Is he making someone believe that he is going away? That he is going to the place the ticket is for? Is the ticket his alibi for being away during a specific time? Is he planning to do something while he is "away"? If so, crime? Does he just want to pick up some duty free goods? Does he try to refund his ticket? Would something not work if he did? Did he succeed? Is he close to his hometown (within reasonable taxi distance)? Far away? Is he out on a trip already when he buys the ticket? |

Snoozer and Martin, Well done * * * SPOILER * * * Hugo checked in at the airport and went through security to the departure lounge. He did all his Christmas shopping in the duty free area and saved far more money than the ticket had cost. He waited until the flight had left and then apologised to the authorities for missing his flight. There was no other flight to the destination that day so he was told off and sent home. Mission accomplished. |
