Should we be trying to find out about the "embellishment"? yep. More about the circumstances of the bat mitzvah?no Why the passage was chosen?no Why you were looking for it now?yes |

Anything to do with the fact that there are many different melodies that can be used with any given verse? |

Were you looking specifically for the variation that you had used at your bat mitzvah? Is it an unusual one? Or is it that the melodies aren't often attached to the verses on webpages? |

Were you looking specifically for the variation that you had used at your bat mitzvah?yesish Is it an unusual one?NO Or is it that the melodies aren't often attached to the verses on webpages?YES I'm going to say that that is enough for a SPOILER I was searching online for a particular passage that I recited for my Haftarah at my Bat Mitzvah. The first verse and it's meoldy are forever engrained in my brain, but I couldn't for the life of me remember what the next words were, or their tune. When comes to reciting Torah and Haftarah, there is a very specific melody to which they are to be sung. This melody is noted by marks called trope above and below the Hebrew letters. What I was trying to find was a Hebrew passage that included the trope. Alas, after an hour of searching I had found many websites that appeared promising, but upon closer inspection, almost all were perfectly clear to me (in English), or simple and without embellishment (in Hebrew, but without trope) Frustrated, I gave up my search. Thank you Rabrab for finishing this thing, finally. |

Glad I could help out. I hate to see a puzzle languishing from inattention. You might want to drop a note to the woman who writes a blog called The Velveteen Rabbi--she had several posts some months ago about her efforts to learn to correctly interpret the tropes. If anyone knows where they might be on the web, I suspect that she would. |
