At a town, a pilot picked up a woman whose flight was canceled, sure that it wouldn't be out of his way. Why? |

First, let's get the standard questions out of the way. The pilot=he? human? adult? male? The woman is a human? adult? female? Is it important why her flight was cancelled? Picked up as in gave her a lift? If so, in his plane? car? bike? other means of transport? Is either of these important; the town? the woman's planned destination? the pilot's planned destination? Anything about the pilot? the woman? |

Is the town in South America? Does it matter, for the purposes of the puzzle, where the town is? Is he in the plane when he talks to the woman? Is he on foot? In a car? Has he met her before? |

You said the town it happened is important. Is it the town itself that is important, in which case we would need to determine name of the town? Or some spesific "property" or quality about it,in which case we need to find out what that quality is? |

So lets try to narrow it down then? Is the town in one of the bigger, fairly well known countries? Like Brazil? or Argentina? Or a small not-so-often heard of one? Like Guyana? Or Suriname? Just to clarify, by South America, you mean south of Panama, right?? |

Did the pilot have to leave the town for some reason? Did he not care where he would fly to? Was the pilot a charter pilot? So that he would go wherever someone hired him to? Therefore wherever she was going would not be out of his way? (Just a shot in the dark as I still have no idea what the city has to do with it) |

I think I get it...If he is going from Brasilia to Beijing, and Brasilia and Beijing are on exactly opposite sides of the earth, then any place on earth would be on a great circle, or direct flight path, between the two cities. Of course, that's an awfully long flight. |

The Pilot was flying from Brasilia to Bei-jing, which is around half-the-world, so any point on the Earth wouldn't be a detour for him. Nice job to all who participated, especially Peter and Eli |
