Two different thoughts: First idea: Was he possibly outside the house when the fire was inside? Did he die of exposure to the elements? Second idea: Was this a real house? If not, could it have possibly been a houseboat? Did he die freezing in the water? | ||

Long shot: Did he live in a cold country where the heater was the only means of survival from freezing, but, after he ran out of his house to escape the fire, the outside temperatures were too cold and in his rush, he forgot to bring warm clothes / a shawl / blanket and froze to death in the snow? | ||
