A few weeks ago, a friend asked me to commit a crime. The title and puzzle statement are inspired by peter36's puzzle of a similar name. |

Does this crime involve: Doing something prohibited in a public place? Alcohol? Jaywalking? Is it something you need to be caught in the act of committing to be charged, or can your participation be detected later? |

Do you? or he? gain anything by doing this? Did he want you to do it alone? or for you two to do it together? Did you actually do it? Is location relevant here? Is this a crime only in some place(s)? like a weird law that has never been abolished? |

Does this crime involve: Doing something prohibited in a public place? yes, but I don't think the public aspect is a necessary part of the crime Alcohol? no Jaywalking? no Is it something you need to be caught in the act of committing to be charged, or can your participation be detected later? depending on how you commit the crime, it could be either. Do you? or he? gain anything by doing this? nothing but the satisfaction of having done it Did he want you to do it alone? didn't matter or for you two to do it together? ditto Did you actually do it? yes Is location relevant here? yes Is this a crime only in some place(s)? YES like a weird law that has never been abolished? the "weirdness" is subjective; but to answer the spirit of the question, the law's still being enforced |

I dimly remember that in Thailand, it is illegal to leave your house without wearing underwear. Are you guilty of this? once or twice, but this isn't the law in question. Jobs relevant? no, with a very small ish Any animals relevant? only insofar as humans are animals (I remember some sort of asian law stating that having a goat in the street is against the law) yet another interesting law, but not the one I'm thinking about. Hint: The event that caused me to want to commit this crime has recently been in the news. Knowing this could help. |

Does the law require you to do something? prohibits from doing something? prohibits possession of items or their particular use? Does this law apply to everybody? only to foreigners? The reason this law exists in Thailand but not in England, is it cultural? religious? political? historical? economical? geographical ( e.g. there would be no reason for England to have a law protecting its coral reefs )? "just so happened"? Were you in England when you were asked to commit this crime? Is it related to your visiting amazon.com from another puzzle? |

Did the event causing you to want to commit the crime happen in Thailand? Did you want to do the crime as a sort of protest, or a way of saying "Thank god we don't live in Thailand so we can do this here"? Did he ask you to do it because it is against an Thai law? Sort of for the fun of doing something "illegal"? Or is it just something that we would think nothing of doing in England, and he asked you to do it just because he wanted to do it? Is it anything to do with what you wear? What you do to other people? Where you go? |

Was the event someone being punished for breaking this law? So you wanted to celebrate being able to do that thing without being punished in the same way? So the law is to do with what you do to other people? Did you do it to your friend? Or he did it to you? Does it cause harm to the other person in any way? Does it inconvenience them? Is it a law couples were more likely to break? Eg no holding hands in public? Something like this that might offend the moral sensibilities of the public? |

Absolutely - the specific act isn't relevant, only that it involves the crime of lese majeste, illegal in Thailand (and other countries), but not in England. And that's a SPOILER. |
