Real turkey--as in "gobble gobble"? Live turkey? Frozen turkey? And people were killed? Food poisoning? Did a turkey try to cross a road and cause a traffic accident? I don't think turkeys can fly. Was this somehow relevant? I know on an old show in the states (WKRP of Cincinatti)--and I saw this probably over twenty years ago--Les Nessman decided to do a Thanksgiving turkey drop from a Helicopter (thinking turkeys could fly) and they plummeted to the ground--can't remember if deaths were involved or not, though. Sounds morbid, but it was actually pretty funny. |

Clearly not the right answer, then! Turkey Lurkey was the friend of Chicken Little, in the old fairy tale, who went around warning everyone that the sky was falling down. Which, in some versions of the tale, it did. As for Mr Hankey ... I'll let you google that: I don't want to corrupt you. =) Is Turkey (the country) relevant? Is Turkey a proper name in this context? Is it a cartoon character? When you speak of a verbal transformation, do you mean that we actually need to change the word "turkey" into something else? In a similar way to the extension of "key" to "turkey"? |

And the VT mascot is the Hokie bird(A turkey). This puzzle was about the April 12th shooting in this town. |

Good puzzle--good transition from thinking about a live turkey thinking about a mascot. I really had to think about this one. I hope you were not close friends with any of the victims. Even so, I hope the people in the town are able to recover quickly from this tragedy. |

I know I could have, but anyone not acquainted HOW to pronounce Hokie couldn't have gotten this. In my original version, it was key to hokie, but I doubted very many people would understand it at all. |
