Does he own his house? Did he ever? Does he sleep on a bed? Would you find in his bedroom what you'd expect to find in a "normal" bedroom"? (ie, wardrobe, dresser, bed, bedside table, lamp etc.) If we went into his bedroom, would we notice anything unusual about it? Would we know why he was upset? Is it relevant who he gave his stuff to? family member? creditor? lawyer? Is it relevant how long ago what happened happened? last week? last year? 10 years ago? When he was a child? |

Booklover (Booklover) I know that sometimes people put up the first bill (usually dollar bill) that they received at their very first job/business venture etc. for sentimental reasons. Sixtyeight (Sixtyeight) is it a single bill? no a single bill glued to a wall? no glued to something relevant? yes did he wallpaper a room with cash? Yes! And that's enough for a spoiler at the end of this post (so stay tuned!) is it a denomination so large that no one will accept it? no Zenith (Zenith) Had he made something out of the money to wear, like a hat or tuxedo made of $100 bills, to be worn at a special event, like the horse racing or an elaborate awards ceremony? no, but good guess if so: His financial situation has now changed and all he has left is the item of clothing, which is not worth anything but cost him thousands of dollars? no Pbzeppelin (Pbzeppelin) are the currency bills glued to some object that is app 10ft * 1 ft ? yes did the money get glued by an accident? or was it voluntary? yes can the paper bills be removed? no is the object a coffin? christmas tree? no to both did when/occasion he lost the money have any importance? no Ziroisme (Ziroisme) Are the bills behind a glass partition? no Is the way he earned the money relevant? no (sorry if this isa repeat question) Is it a lot of money ( not quantity but bill amount)? it certainly is! ******************************SPOILER******************************* This puzzle was inspired by one scene in a movie called Millions: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366777/ Edward, after rapidly acquiring an enormous sum of money, decides in his jubilance to wallpaper his bedroom with some of the larger bills (probably not a good idea... but he was probably either drunk with joy or with recently-purchased expensive wine). His fortune, however, is quickly lost... through gambling, or bad investments, or maybe the law finally caught up to him... and he's left practically penniless. Just about the only thing he has left to his name is his house... and all the money that he glued on the wall of his bedroom... if only he could manage to get it off the wall intact. He therefore cries himself to sleep every night... for the fortune that he lost, and for his stupidity in plastering his wall with the precious bills in the first place. Thanks to everyone, especially Booklover and Sixtyeight, who stuck with the puzzle (and my sporadic posting) for so long! |
