does this have to do with a sign? posting? advertisement? for the pet shop? did you go in the pet shop? did you go near the pet shop? Did R & S know anything about you? In your statements about R & S, do you infer about what they want or is it considered fact? is the fish a common tropical fish found in many pet stores, fish tanks? |

My wording was quite loose, and yes: it's more of an inference than a fact. is the fish a common tropical fish found in many pet stores, fish tanks? yes |

don't know much about fish, so here's a total guess...does your hobby have anything to do with cards? gambling? was the fish a crappie by any chance? maybe you confused it with the gambling game of craps? regarding your hobby--does it have to do with sports--that you watch or that you play? movies? games? puzzles? automobiles? collections of some sorts--coins, stamps? is the title relevant? or is it just that when you found that this was the wrong site you said, "goodbye, gals"? if it is a relevant title, does it have any movie connotations (I know there are two movies, one called the goodbye girl and another called the goodbye girls)? |

another idea regarding the title--was this advertisement put on a site with false intentions? did the owners of the pet store know that members of this particular site liked to discuss things, so they knew that when they put the advertisement up, they would get many people to click on it thinking they were going to discuss a topic? Were they hoping to get even more people to learn about their pet store? Did this advertisement get removed? Did the pet store owners get into any trouble? Did the pet store itself close? |

I looked at different puzzles, and it looks like there are different ads at the top of each page... Yes indeed! In fact, the one I clicked was a site in the UK, but the principle is the same. Look up to the address bar ... Which only goes to show how rarely we look at advertising. I only noticed it when Paul introduced the new skin, and that is what prompted the puzzle. Before I spoil, perhaps you'd care to explain my [slightly silly] title? |

Is the title a word play on gallon ( of water in fish tank )? gull ( fish-eating bird )? gall ( in expression "gall and wormwood" )? When I was typing my previous question, one of the ad links at the top was for KevinsFishShop.com or something similar. |

Is the title a word play on gallon ( of water in fish tank )? gull ( fish-eating bird )? gall ( in expression "gall and wormwood" )? None of these, but you've done more than enough for a: *****SPOILER****** The title is an anagram of 'Ads by Google' which appear at the top of the LTPF. When Paul changed to the 'Classic' skin a few days ago, they were especially prominent. Because 'discus' is in the URL of the site, the ads often feature fish-shops, such as this one: http://www.plymouthdiscus.com where Rosey Liao, Sophia Peng and their colleagues will be delighted to sell you a discus. How they manage to ship them is probably a lateral puzzle in itself. I couldn't believe how long this puzzle lasted. I suppose it just shows how good we've all become at ignoring adverts since the early days of the Internet. |
