"He died. Why should I?" she thought. This need of her's to ask questions saved her life. |

if he was murdered, did she kill him? was life insurance involved in any way? if so, did he have a large payout? was the money going to her? along the same line, did "why not" refer to why not go ahead and spend his money? was she having an affair? perhaps why not marry again? why not let an affair be known? did the "why not" refer to something bad she was thinking of doing or something good she was thinking of doing? when you said "not yet" to whether jobs were relevant, did you mean that jobs will be relevant later, after some of the other things are solved, or are jobs never relevant? |

No was he cheating on her? No was she cheating on him? No, no crimes of passion involved does Why Should I refer to why should I kill myself? YES! Damn that was quick! or why should I do something about my husband dying? why should I do something to his body? why should I grieve? why should I arrange his funeral? None of the rest Is there a current and up to date list of methods of death that can be considered posted? There might be, and if you find one I'd be happy to point the relevant one out if he was murdered, did she kill him? No was life insurance involved in any way? if so, did he have a large payout? was the money going to her? No along the same line, did "why not" refer to why not go ahead and spend his money? There is no "why not" in the puzzle statement was she having an affair? perhaps why not marry again? why not let an affair be known? No, again, no "why not" :-) did the "why not" refer to something bad she was thinking of doing or something good she was thinking of doing? Beginning to see a trend here hehe... when you said "not yet" to whether jobs were relevant, did you mean that jobs will be relevant later, after some of the other things are solved, or are jobs never relevant? Read above |

well I did try and give you the easy way out... So stabbed by a sword. Is the other significant person the killer? Manslaughter? So is it an accidental stabbing? Was the sword supposed to be blunted? if she hadn't asked the question (aloud?) would she have died the same way? If not then consider list reposted in this respect! Was he the "teacher"? She? both? |

So stabbed by a sword. Is the other significant person the killer? No, as answered before Manslaughter? No So is it an accidental stabbing? Was the sword supposed to be blunted? No if she hadn't asked the question (aloud?) would she have died the same way? She thought it, as you can glean from the puzzle statement... and she would not have killed her self in a yopishly 'murder' way If not then consider list reposted in this respect! Was he the "teacher"? She? both? Neither, the job became relevant with the third person, so yea, the third person was the teacher Also from your list, she would have killed herself by something close to: Made to kill themselves Placed in a deadly situation by friends Placed in a deadly situation by strangers Cooked (Tangentially lol)

Did she ask the question out loud? I left out burnt on the list didn't I... told you it was incomplete! So did the teacher try to make her kill herself? Did asking the question make her realise that there was another way out, besides the way that lead to death? Since you didn't put made to kill themselves on my list for him... was she made to kill him? AHA! would electrocution/executed on the list have matched to her would be death as well? |

If I pass several thousand volts of electricity throught your body it would burn you quite badly wouldn't it? (I was pursuing a thought where she was being put in a place to carry the can for the death...allowing oneself to be executed would pretty much account for those codes.) Puzzle statement says she thought it, but didn't exclude the possiblity that she voiced it as well. So we have excluded murder and manslaughter... what remains? war? was he in a battle? Are the pair together when he dies? does she witness it, or just see the body after/hear he has died? |

IRR Puzzle statement says she thought it, but didn't exclude the possiblity that she voiced it as well. It doesn't exclude a lot of other possibilities as well. No, she only thought it. So we have excluded murder and manslaughter... what remains? war? Yes! Well done. was he in a battle? Yes Are the pair together when he dies? So he is killed in battle... on the losing side? IRR as a consequence she ends up in a situation that is life-threatening? Yope... was he the friend refered to by in "placed in a deadly situation by friends"? No, but again, that's a vague reference to what happened don't focus on it She is due to be burnt... accident? deliberate? sacrifice? Suttee? Suttee! Well done :-D Just realised set up questions not asked... real life? FYOI? book? press? song? real life situation FMOI Woah! Didn't expect you'd think of suttee :-D Great job! ******************SPOILER******************** She was a young woman, newly married. Her husband died in a war, and according to the ancient custom of 'Sati' she was to join him in his funeral pyre. Her village was secluded and extremely orthodox. So no wonder, they expected her to fulfill the custom, and if she didn't go voluntarily they would have probably forced her into the fire. Fortunately, she was one of the few girls who had been allowed to go to the nearby school, where she had developed a good rapport with the teacher. She went back to the old man and informed him of her plight. He immediately directed her to the women's refuge in the city, and she was saved from a horrible death. Sati was a Hindu funeral custom, now very rare, in which the widow would immolate herself on her husband’s funeral pyre. The term is derived from the original name of the goddess Sati also known as Dakshayani, who immolated herself, unable to bear the humiliation of her (living) husband Shiva by her father Daksha. The term may also be used to refer to the widow herself. The term sati is now sometimes interpreted as 'chaste woman'. A lot of Hindus (including me) believe this practice to be a misinterpretation of that story, which was meant to symbolize the chastity of the female and not the burning of the widow. Thankfully, the Indian government has established a task force to ensure this practice remains abolished. Thanks for playing along! Great job Tsoram! Cheers, and do keep cracking at my other puzzle Quick! 3.0 (which is turning out to be not so much of a quickie, my apologies) |
