This puzzle forum's very own Felicia Nimue was taking a walk in the woods about 2 weeks ago. She had planned to walk there for about an hour, but when she checked her watch, she immediately turned around & left the woods--even though the time indicated by her watch was what she expected it to be. How come?? |

Did you walk only 1/2 an hour, so you could get back with the other half? |

Relevant how long you had been walking for? Less than an hour? When you left the woods, did you go straight home? Did you spend about an hour walking? Did you leave the woods because you didn't want to be late for something? You needed to get back? You needed to be out of the woods for some reason? Was the time shown on your watch the correct time? Was it the time when you had been planning to leave? |

Is it relevant who was in the area? Did you want to pretend that you had to be someplace quickly? To get away from someone/something? Did you suddenly remember something at home that you hadn't taken care of? After you turned around and left the woods, did you continue walking for the full hour? Did you go someplace significant after you left the woods? Was there something significant in the woods? Is the position of the sun relevant? Do these woods close at sundown? |

So the situation is approximately: 10am. Nimue leaves her house planning to walk in the woods for 1 hour. 10.15am, Nimue checks her watch and decides to leave the woods. Did it take you 15 minutes to leave the woods? Sometime in the intervening period - between 10.30 and 11? Nimue goes somewhere else significant - somewhere outdoors? a shop? someone's house? another woods? 11am. Nimue retuns home as scheduled? Is the actual act of checking your watch relevant? was there something relevant on your wrist? on the face of you watch? Written on your hand? Did it remind you of something you had to do? Were you planning to go to the place that you went to after you left the woods at some point after 11am? |

Did you retrace your steps? Relevant? (My imagined scenario is that you noticed a missing piece of jewelry or something else that you wanted to find and repair - or some part of one of the above.) |

Did the thing on your wrist make you aware of something you had to do? (as opposed to reminding you that you had to do it) Was the thing on your wrist related to something you were wearing? was it a scar of any sort? Was it related to the fact you were wearing your watch? Did you buy anything in the shop you went to? If you hadn't checked your watch at that time, would you have gone to the shop later? not at all? If you'd checked your watch just at the end of your walk, would you still have gone to the shop? (even if this meant staying out of the house longer than 1 hour) |
