Would you feed the same thing to a dog? A similar thing, though not exactly the same A duck? Very unlikely A human being? Ditto Would a dog be fooled (into thinking that you would give him two)? Quite possibly A duck? This seems less likely to m, though I don't really know enough about the intelligence of ducks A human being? A human in a similar situation could certainly be excused for thinking I would give him two. Did you feed him eggs? No |

Could we say that animals that are at least as intelligent as cats would be fooled, too? Did you feed him canned food? Homemade food? Raw food? Cooked food? Food of animal origin? Does it contain any vegetables? Was the cat fooled because of what you said? Did? Before you fed him? During? After? |

Could we say that animals that are at least as intelligent as cats would be fooled, too? Yes Did you feed him canned food? No Homemade food? Raw food? Cooked food? Food of animal origin? Does it contain any vegetables? To save unnecessary elaboration on this point (and because I'm not entirely sure of the food's composition), I'll just say that it was regular pre-packaged catfood. It contains meat and vegetables, but that's not really relevant. Was the cat fooled because of what you said? Did? This Before you fed him? This During? After? |

I was really sure I had asked if it was regular cat food... Did you take two food packages? Did you open two? Was it the usual type of cat food package you feed your cat? Any other cat/pet involved? |

No no, I was definitely the one who was thinking backwards... I guess we have to figure out why you took two food packages. Right? Or did you do anything special that fooled the cat, besides taking two packages? |

Are we talking tin cans here? No Maybe the kind with a pull tab? Or was the cat food packaged in plastic bags? It was in foil sachets, but plastic bags would work Other? Is the type of packaging relevant? Only in that it would be harder to take two cans by accident Any other objects involved? Yes |

Sounds like the cupboard door. Right? I guess you opened the cupboard, grabbed two food packages, closed the door and opened one of the packages. Did things take place in this order? Did you open the door once? Twice? Did anything relevant happen before you opened the door? After you opened it the first time? Before you opened the food package? After? |

Did you realise you had grabbed two packages after closing the cupboard the first time? Did you open the cupboard again to put back the unused package? Was the cat fooled by the fact that you opened the cupboard twice (doesn't sound very convincing, I know...)? |

Was the cat fooled by the fact that you opened the cupboard twice (doesn't sound very convincing, I know...)? Yes to all...why didn't it sound convincing? :-) ***** SPOILER ***** My cat has learned where I keep the catfood, so when I open the cupboard door he knows it's feeding time. One time, though, I grabbed two sachets of cat food instead of one...when I opened the door to put the other one back, my cat came running back thinking I'd decided to feed him again. He was disappointed. Thanks for playing...it was fairly simple in the end :-) |

Oh, right. I was stuck with the idea that you had put away the other sachets immediately, so I couldn't see how the cat could be fooled. Nice puzzle, anyway! |
