Did the act of thanking him expose him in a hiding place? Did the act of thanking him expose him, for his role in an incident, (i.e draw him out) from a group? if so: were the group aware of an individual among them responsible for this role before he was thanked? did the group kill him? | ||

Well jumping in here but I'm thinking mafia type? or maybe prohibition era style things... eg the speakeasy/club/whatever has just been raided... nothing found but the G-men obviously had too much information (going straight to all the right places etc)... in frustration the Elliot Ness type thanks one of the gangsters on the way out and.... | ||
