A man found some gold and made it into a ring that he planned to propose marriage to his girlfriend with. So, after making the ring, he put it into the safe deposit box until he was ready. About a month later, he came back and found that the ring had changed into something else. explain. |

Real gold? made it into a ring = melted it and reshaped it? His intentions to use it to propose to his girlfriend relevant to the how or why it changed? Did it stay in the safe deposit box he'd put it in for the entire duration of that month? Did anything happen to the box during that time? Duration it was left for relevant? (i.e.) could it have happened the same in the space of a second? minute? hour? day? week? year? Physically changed? changed shape? Changed as in was replaced with something else? |

Exploring the path of "Real gold? yes-ish", was it 100% gold? Other chemicals present? If so: relevant which chemicals? Changed colour? Structure? Hardness? Another physical property? Anything else present in the box relevant? Air particles? Could this have occured if he left the ring outside? In a sealed room? At home, in his bedroom? |

Radioactive decay relevant? yes Gold as in element Au? this one money? something worthy? Was the ring still hot when put into the box? irr Rust or some other sort of decay? see radioactive decay one and below. Temperature relevant? Moisture? Are we pursuing an FA? The radioactive decay one makes it so close that it's time for a *****SPOILER**** It was radioactive Au-198. This radioisotope of gold has a half-life of roughly 2 days, and as such had completely decayed into Mercury-198 by the time the man came back. |

He would have died right away of the exposure, actually. I don't think you can even come close to a macroscopic amount (a few grams) of such a short-lived nuclide. Sorry for spoiling so early! |
