Almost everyone would be delighted by what Brendan said, but Nettie most definitely was not, even though her outlook and sensibilities are not unusual. How come??? |

Did Nettie misinterpret what Brenden said? Nettie wasn't delighted, but was she any of the following: angry? sad? confused? hurt? insulted? guilty? stressed? none of the above? |

Hmm Brendan is quite a ordinary name for a protagonist in a Nimue puzzle. Or maybe it's just me because in Ireland we have lots of Brendans Would other people be delighted because they would take what Brendan said to be a compliment? Would he have seen to be the bearer of good news? Anything relevant about Brendan other than what he said? Is he a colleague of Nettie's ? Her boss? Would Brendan have expected Nettie's negative reaction? Did he say what he said solely to her or to an audiance or group of people? |

Is there a relationship between Nettie and Brendan? If so, is what Brendan said something similar to "You're so much smarter (or some other good thing) than my (whatever the relationship Between nettie and Brendan was)" As in "you're so much smarter than my girlfriend" if Nettie was Brendan's girlfriend. |

Do these other relevant people have some commonality? If so, is it this commonality that makes them relevant? Do Nettie and/or Brendan share this commonality with the relevant group? |

Is religion relevant? Did he tell her she was pregnant and she didn't want to be? Or vice versa? Was she pregnant? |

RECAP: Add the following to the puzzle description: Brendan is Nettie's doctor. She is over 80. He makes a statement whose point is that she's in good health. She wants to be in good health, but the statement upsets her. |

Was her age referenced at all in the statement? Was it something like "you're in good health for your age", and she took this to imply that she was doing poorly relative to anyone younger than that? |

Oops, sorry. Musta missed that. Did she misinterpret what he said? Does she think she is NOT in good health? Or did he say something tangential to the diagnosis -- "You're in perfect health, and BTW this as well." Did he inadvertently suggest she was ready to die? Or ill? Did he use any sort of jargon? If he told any of his other patients the same thing, would they have reacted the same way? What if they were male? Juvenile? Adult but younger than Nettie? Older? Do they speak the same language? Do they share the same first language? Would it help if we knew Brendan's exact words? |

Did Brendan mention that it would be unnecessary for Nettie to return for another check-up or medical procedure in the future, and although he meant this because she was healthy enough not to need it, she interpreted it as if it were a moot point since she would be dead by then anyway? |

Does Nettie have a relevant current medical condition (eg dementia)? Or something relevant in her past medical history (eg cancer in the past)? Is the result of a specific medical test relevant? Do we need to know more about her age other than she is over 80? (ie does she need to be more than 100 for this to work) Is there even more about Nettie's background that we need to find out? |

Is her specific age itself (the number) relevant, or her age relative to other relevant person(s)? |

What is the age. 80-90? 90-100? 100+ ? Is her age relevant because of her connection to some historical event? ("Nettie, you're the healthiest Titanic survivor on Earth" --> that sort of thing?) |

Now, isn't that just fine?" "It's not enough," said Nettie, Since now I'm 99." Thanks for sticking with it, everyone, & for solving it, Hannah. I'm posting a new scrund puzzle at the bottom of the page. |
