One Friday night, Daniel and Jennifer were playing Texas Hold'em with their friends Sammy, Guy and Jamie. Throughout the game's conversation, Jennifer often brought up a certain something about Daniel, that was annoying her. During the last round of the game, everyone raised and re-raised and the pot was quite substantial. As Jennifer, Guy and Jamie folded, everyone's attention was on Daniel and Sammy, to see what they would do as the river opened. Daniel went all-in. While Sammy sat contemplating whether or not to call, Daniel showed his hand to Jen, who pointed at one of his cards, laughed, and said "You should take a cue from this one." Sammy immediately folded. Daniel was disappointed that he wasn't called and asked Sammy what made him think he was beat. Sammy said, "Jennifer gave it away. There was no way my hand could've beaten trip-kings!" How in the world did Sammy know?! |

Hmmm...so there's something about the king-cards in a deck that relates to what Ms. Jennifer was saying about Daniel? Without actually fetching a deck of cards, anything to do with facial hair? Other hair? Weapons? Crowns? Did Sammy have a king in his hand? Were other kings already showing on the table? |

Was the annoying thing considered a bad habit? Was it a facial thing, i.e. some sort of scowl? Was the annoying action soundless? sound-producing? Was it something he was doing with his mouth to make a sound? Was it something he was doing with his hands or the cards in his hand? And this annoying thing somehow along with Jennifer's comment told Sammy that: 1. specifically, Daniel would win. 2. specifically, Sammy would lose. or both 1 & 2? Did Jennifer's comment tell Sammy what cards Daniel had? Was Jennifer's comment said to warn Sammy to fold? or was it an innocent observance? |

Anything to do with the cards in the flop? the turn? Would it help to know what card Jennifer pointed to? what the other card was that Daniel held? Did Jennifer point to a king? Would Daniel have actually won if Sammy had called? iff so: would he have won with trip kings? Anything to do with the french playing-card manufacturers assigned names for the kings (up to C19th): Spades: David? Hearts: Charles? Clubs: Alexander? Diamonds: Caesar? nicknames for the various cards? e.g. suicide king/ king without moustache = king of hearts? one-eyed king = king of diamonds? etc. Do Daniel and Jennifer have some special relationship? married? boyfriend/girlfriend? did perhaps Jennifer not like Daniel's moustache and think he should shave it? |

Hmmm...so there's something about the king-cards in a deck that relates to what Ms. Jennifer was saying about Daniel? Yes Without actually fetching a deck of cards, anything to do with facial hair? Yes, you've got this one in the bag :-) Other hair? Weapons? Crowns? Did Sammy have a king in his hand? No Were other kings already showing on the table? Yes, 2 Didn't think it would be that easy, but was fun framing it anyway :-) Was the annoying thing considered a bad habit? No Was it a facial thing, i.e. some sort of scowl? Noish, see above Was the annoying action soundless? Yes sound-producing? Was it something he was doing with his mouth to make a sound? No Was it something he was doing with his hands or the cards in his hand? No And this annoying thing somehow along with Jennifer's comment told Sammy that: 1. specifically, Daniel would win. 2. specifically, Sammy would lose. or both 1 & 2? Possibly both, it just gave away a tell on Daniel's hand Did Jennifer's comment tell Sammy what cards Daniel had? One in particular Was Jennifer's comment said to warn Sammy to fold? or was it an innocent observance? This one Anything to do with the cards in the flop? the turn? Yes, it is only relevant that there were two kings on the board. Would it help to know what card Jennifer pointed to? Yes what the other card was that Daniel held? IRR Did Jennifer point to a king? Yes Would Daniel have actually won if Sammy had called? Yup iff so: would he have won with trip kings? Yes Anything to do with the french playing-card manufacturers assigned names for the kings (up to C19th): Spades: David? Hearts: Charles? Clubs: Alexander? Diamonds: Caesar? No nicknames for the various cards? No e.g. suicide king/ king without moustache = king of hearts? This was the card and it's only relevant that he's the only one that didn't have a moustache one-eyed king = king of diamonds? etc. Do Daniel and Jennifer have some special relationship? married? This boyfriend/girlfriend? did perhaps Jennifer not like Daniel's moustache and think he should shave it? Perfect :-) And that leads to probably the fastest... *******SPOILER********** Daniel had grown a moustache, much to Jennifer's annoyance. During the game, she kept badgering him to shave it off. When she made the comment on Dan's card, Sammy put two and two together and realised she must be referring to a king of hearts, the only one in the pack without a moustache. He saw the pair of kings on the board, realised Dan must have trip-kings, and knew he was beat. Sorry it was so easy, should have probably been more cryptic, but I had fun concocting this one :-) cheers and thanks for playing along! |
