Does it have to do with Neptune being the 8th planet from the sun? length of their orbits relevant? the way they revolve on their axis? Did you have a dream that they collided into each other and the force of the explosion destroyed the earth and only your brain survived, hooked up on to a computer that was incapsulating in a spaceship traveling to another galaxing, and then woke up and realized it wasn't a dream after all? | ||

Or were you basing your assumption that it would never be true again off of wrong knowledge? if so, was it your own wrong assum[tion or a widely asccepted miscalculation/changed definition etc that is no longer held as true by the astronomological community? | ||

Exactly this. ****SPOILER**** Pluto has a very eccentric orbit -- so eccentric that for 20 years out of every 248, it is closer to the sun than Neptune. This happened most recently from February 7, 1979 to February 11, 1999, but won't happen again until the 23rd century. I knew this at the time, and since I also knew I wasn't going to live 228 more years, I knew that after that day I could never truthfully say "Neptune is the farthest planet from the sun" again. However, I didn't anticipate the August 2006 redefinition of "planet" to exclude Pluto. So today I can again say that Neptune is the farthest planet from the sun. |
