After browsing hundreds of pages no other solution could be found, a digital extraction was necessary.

First new puzzle in a while for me. Enjoy : )

Pages: Physical? Digital/Electronic? Metaphorical? Other?
Solution: Mathematical? Scientific? Visual Studio solution (.sln)? Philosophical? Other?
Digital: Not hex, octal, or binary? Not analog? Electronic? Other?
Extraction: As in decompressing a file/folder? Actual removal of data, or simply locating/viewing/retrieving it?
Browsing: In a file browser? Web browser? Command line/terminal? Non-electronically perusing physical files? Other?

Are any specific programs relevant? Any specific types of programs (i.e., file/web browsers, (de)compression programs, etc.)? Any specific OS?

If physical, filing method (cabinets, piles, etc.) relevant?

Title relevant? Food/eating relevant?

Is the person doing the actions relevant? Or simply a featureless agent? HAM/HAF?

Scientific Solution: An answer to a physical (possibly hypothetical and/or untestable, such as the Twins Paradox) problem that is not the result of a mathematical calculation (i.e., not a numerical approximation of physical reality), but rather the result of an understanding of the underlying physical laws and parameters governing a situation (i.e., the space-faring twin is younger because they accelerated and the terrestrial twin did not (appreciably) accelerate).

Filing method: Filing cabinets? Piles/stacks of files? Boxes? Chaotically spread about the room(s)?

Is it relevant how many files there are?

Is it a specific solution that is being sought? Any solution to a specific problem? Any solution at all?
Is the searcher searching for some specific piece of data? Do they want to look at it? Do something with it? Do something besides "extract" it? Just know where it is?

Is the extraction done with fingers? How many hands? Is it relevant how many fingers?

Is anyone else relevant besides the searcher?

Is this related to a well-known event in the real world? Does it take place in the "real world"? A fictional world? A well-known fictional world, or a generic one?

Apologies for the double post. That's what I get for submitting my post and then hitting refresh several hours later. (Though the differences in answers by Flem may be useful...) XD

Is the action a common one (i.e., do many people do this searching for a solution and extracting it)?

When you say "yope" to "Were the pages cookbooks?", does this mean that the "cookbooks" were metaphorical, or otherwise not a normal cookbook (e.g., The Anarchists' Cookbook)?

Was the problem for which a solution is sought a physical one (as in engineering, hard sciences, etc.)? A theoretical one? A relational one (interpersonal, inter-organization, other)? A design problem (clothing/fashion, web pages, art, other)? Other?

How many other people are relevant: 1? 2-5? 6-10? 11+? 20+? 50+? 100+? Significantly more?
Is the exact number of people involved relevant?
I take it from your previous answers that only one person is doing the searching?

Any specific kinds of food relevant? Any specific amount (Less than a meal, one-person meal, multi-person meal, etc)?
Is it more related to food, or eating, or something else (but food/eating still involved)?

Apologies for the double post. That's what I get for submitting my post and then hitting refresh several hours later. (Though the differences in answers by Flem may be useful...) XD They were mostly consistent now that i look back at them. Use what you will from them, the ones with slight inconsistencies could be for several reasons most of which stem from the fact that it doesn't really matter.

When you say "yope" to "Were the pages cookbooks?", does this mean that the "cookbooks" were metaphorical, or otherwise not a normal cookbook (e.g., The Anarchists' Cookbook)? FA.

Was the searcher searching for the solution because they themselves wanted it? Because the other person wanted it? Did either person want to find the solution, or were they somehow compelled to?

Is the other person HAM/F?

Is it relevant what setting the searching is done in (school, research, office, outdoors, etc.)?

Were the pages part of a single book/compilation? Multiple compilations? Loose-leaf? Some combination?
Were the pages/groups of pages of more-or-less consistent size?

Were the files arranged in an orderly fashion? A rigorously orderly fashion, mostly orderly, or just sort-of orderly?
Were they in alphabetical order? ASCII order? Some other order?

So the searcher was searching through a book? Were they using the index? Table of contents? Paging through the whole thing?

Is the subject of the book/pages relevant? If so: Computer science? Other type of engineering? Science? Philosophy? Mathematics? Other academic subject? Non-academic subject?

Order of arrangement: Chronological? Linear (as in, it makes sense to talk about "A" then "B" instead of the other way around)? Paralleling a sequence of instructions? A walk-through of something (as in going through a game in the order of what happens in a turn, or in the order a series of steps is meant to be completed in)? Something else? (Sorry if that is confusing.)

Were the reason(s) for the second person wanting the solution personal? Financial? Legal? Educational?

Does the book exist in real life? That exact book or a similar book/class of books?

Is it relevant where outdoors this happens? In someone's yard? On a school campus? In a city? In a park? Just outside a city? Far from a city? In a field? On a sidewalk? On a road? On a trail? Completely off any form of road? In the wilderness?

Caesarachilles

So the searcher was searching through a book? Correct. Were they using the index? IRR. Table of contents? IRR. Paging through the whole thing? IRR, though probably a little of each of these.

Is the subject of the book/pages relevant? Yes. If so: Computer science? Other type of engineering? Science? Philosophy? Mathematics? Other academic subject? Non-academic subject? Non-academic.

Order of arrangement of what?: Chronological? Linear (as in, it makes sense to talk about "A" then "B" instead of the other way around)? Paralleling a sequence of instructions? A walk-through of something (as in going through a game in the order of what happens in a turn, or in the order a series of steps is meant to be completed in)? Something else? (Sorry if that is confusing.) You should be this makes no sense at all what in the world are you referring to all of this in the context of? Rephrase please.

Were the reason(s) for the second person wanting the solution personal? b{Personal.} Financial? Legal? Educational?

Does the book exist in real life? Yes. That exact book or a similar book/class of books? Yes to both.

Is it relevant where outdoors this happens? Yes. In someone's yard? On a school campus? In a city? In a park? Just outside a city? Far from a city? This... In a field? On a sidewalk? On a road? On a trail? Completely off any form of road? In the wilderness? ...and this.

Is it the Zombie Survival Guide? (Its 256 pages could count as "hundreds"...)

Is the "food" people? Are zombies the ones doing the eating?

Is it relevant which state/province/shire/country/continent this occurs on? Or simply that it is in the wilderness?

Is it relevant what the season is? What the weather is like? What the terrain is like? What the two people are wearing?

Is the book (if not the ZSG) a government/military survival book? One written by a private citizen? Is it a well-known book?

Is the food (if not people) from the: Grains group? Fruit group? Vegetable group? Milk group? Meat and beans group? Other group (also known as the Tasty Group)? (Using the current USDA MyPyramid food pyramid.)

Is the food gorp? A similar trail mix-type food? Clif Bars or similar energy bar?

Are the people dressed in hiking clothing? Are they backpackers/hikers? Do they have backpacks etc?

Is the searcher doing the eating? Person two? Someone/something else?

Did the second person want the solution because they were hungry? Bored? Idly curious about something? Needed to know something about an outdoor situation due to their current circumstances?

Are the two people together? Are they in (immediate, unusually high) danger? Could they be in danger in the near future? And that's why the searching needs to be done?

Are the two people going somewhere? In particular? Just going? Does their destination have to do with the searching? Is their destination a result of the search? Is the search necessitated by the destination? Do they have a time frame to get to the destination? Is it within 1 mile? 2 miles? 5? 10? 20? 50? 100? 500? Are they walking or do they have some other form of transport?

Did one of them eat the wrong thing, mistaking it for something else?

Did the digital extraction refer to wild edibles?

btw, you've had some questions waiting for you on your other puzzle for a few days. Since you've been active on this one but not that one, I wanted to point it out in case you just hadn't noticed the other one.

Are they lost?

Is water Relevant? Are they searching for water? Does the digital extraction refer to getting water out of something?

Okay, let's see if we can find out more about the digital extraction... I believe we identified Person 1 as the person looking through the survival book.
Did person 2 have a problem that person 1 was trying to solve? Did person 1 have the same problem?
Was person 2 wounded?
Was the digital extraction actually done?
Did person 1 do the "extraction"?
Did whoever did the extraction... remove something from somewhere? Is person 2's body physically involved in the extraction?

Was it food that was removed?

Was it (whatever it was) removed from some part of person 2's body? Was it stuck?

Was it removed from person 2's... mouth? stomach? pocket? Privates? Buttocks?

Is vomiting relevant? Excreting?

Is the book "How to in the Woods", by Kathleen Meyer? (That is the actual title of the book, in case someone is concerned about inappropriate language, though I suppose the auto-censor took care of that.)
Was person 2 constipated?
Did they lack toilet paper? Subsequently supplied by the book? It's pages? Fingers?

(Geez, I wasn't even going to ask about the buttocks - some people visit this site on their lunch hour - good thing I did...)

Did Person 2 eat something that did not digest properly, and it is now stuck in their, uh, rear end? They tried in vain to find a natural remedy? And their only choice is for Person 2 pull it out with their fingers?

Is the book "How to in the Woods", by Kathleen Meyer? I was not thinking about a particular book, but it could have been. (That is the actual title of the book, in case someone is concerned about inappropriate language, though I suppose the auto-censor took care of that.)
Was person 2 constipated? Yes.
Did they lack toilet paper? Yes. Subsequently supplied by the book? No. It's pages? No. Fingers? Yes.

(Geez, I wasn't even going to ask about the buttocks - some people visit this site on their lunch hour - good thing I did...)

Did Person 2 eat something that did not digest properly, and it is now stuck in their, uh, rear end? In a sense, Yes. They tried in vain to find a natural remedy? Yes. And their only choice is for Person 2 pull it out with their fingers? Yes.

With all of this between the two of you, the answer has been found, so at this point to avoid more detailed questions about disgusting possibilities that people could possibly be seeing on their lunch break i will be presenting the...
___...---SpOiLeRz---...___
As some of you may know from kicking experience constipation can become an issue on long hikes due to the types and quantities of food intake as well as other endeavors associated with hiking, and while it may have happened to some one out there it is generally a joke to refer to alleviating that constipation with your finger as a "Digital Extraction". So in this situation Person 2 is constipated, so Person 1 is looking though their hiking guide to see if they can find a solution but to no avail. Thus the only option left is a digital extraction.

"Kicking experience" can cause that too?? Well geez, I don't think I want to know any more about that...

I was going to ask where you got that puzzle from, Flemsneezy - I think it's obvious you didn't just pull it out of... oh, never mind.
